What has the last 24 hours been like for you?
This is a chance to tell us about your experiences in the last 24 hours, I think our audience will be interested to hear it. Make a comment to tell us about today from your perspective. Do not mention any names of people or political groups.
I went to school in the morning yesterday because I needed to write your reports! It was not easy to concentrate, though, because I knew what was going on not far from here. When I went home, I spent the whole day watching things happen from my apartment. I saw lots of smoke from fires, I heard lots of explosions and I also saw loads of people escaping down soi 11 and 13.
I got quite scared about the safety of my family when a gang went down Petchaburi Road and they set some tyres on fire about 100 metres from our building. There was a lot of thick, black smoke and people acting crazily on the road. I was worreid that the violence was going to get closer to our home.
I followed the news on Twitter, Facebook and the television and also spent a lot of time communicating with friends and family so that they were not too worried about us.
It was tragic to see CentralWorld on fire. So many people will have lost their jobs now that it is gone. It is still smouldering this mornign and the smoke made the sunrise very spooky.
What you said here is very truthful and interesting. The way you told that you got distracted. I was also distracted sometimes which made me loose interest in my work.
Wen I just finished My school work and I went up the swiming pool I saw some smoke outside it was really dark and this morning I herd that the protesters were burning a lote of places and I herd that they trie to burn the hotel but lukley they did noot burn it.
oyea the electricity went down to.
They blocked food and electricity service during the curfew.
I’m really relieved the hotel was not burned down, I bet your Dad is too!
I’m relived that the hotel my mom worked in didn’t burn down.
Me to.
But thise morning I saw on tv most of the other bilding burn down and the bilding burn down has the place we bye the grocryies.(T_T)
Where is the place you buy groceries from?
Central.
central chitlom or central world
Central and Central World are both gone. 1 forever and the other will open on Monday.
Not forever Ranvir. The undamaged part of centralworld will be open in 6 months and the burned down part in quite a long time but not forever.
When I had finished my school work I started to play on my wii. And just when I had beaten the last level of the game I was playing the lights had gone off. Then me and my father went outside to see what had happened: the main power station that supplies electricity for my building had been burned down. Then my brother came from his apartment because he was worried about us. He reallty urged us to move to my godfathers house. But my father saw no reason to go. So I just went to my friends house but they were about to leave as well but then lights had come on. After that inident everything went fine for me and my family.
Could you see any of the fires or smoke from your home?
Yes.
That’s lucky for you that nothing that much bad things happened in your way yesterday.
When I finished my school work I went to see my cousins in school, then we went to Big C there me and my cousin went to get something to eat. We bought Som tum, it was super spicy and both our faces were red. Then we had to head up to her violin lesson there I met my other cousin sister. After they learnt the violin they had contepuary dance lessons so I also went a long, there they had to stretch and learn new moves it was really funny because one of my cousin sister couldn’t do this style and she kept making mistakes but in the end she made it. After both those lessons me and one of my cousins went to get ice cream while the other went to buy spicy chicken for herself. I had lots of fun yesterday. Then we went to her house and there I got to meet my cousins dog, her name is kiara she is soo adorable and she reminds me of my dog. Finaly we went back to my grandparents house and here we watched a movie called Sydney White until late night and then we went to bed. But we also read before sleeping.
I think it is important for our audience to know that Amy is in Phuket at the moment! Have you seen any effects of what has been going on here in Bangkok, Amy?
I was just about to make another comment saying that during snack time I was wathcing the news with my grandpa and the problem doesnt seem to be getting any better so I might have to stay in Phuket longer.
Amy, I really like the way you said the good things that happened yesterday and how great your day must have been.
Your writing is also interesting because I like it how you sort of agreed with Mr. Sam and then wrote “like Mr. Sam said”.I also agree with you, altogether over 15 places were burnt and I think more places are being burnt as well.
Actuall I think that 35 buildings have been set on fire.
So far since the curfew May 19th
Only 12 buildings have been burnt down. Since April 10th, its 32.
When I first started my school work, my dad saw something strange that’s never been seen on the balcony. There was lots of smoke from different angles/places. I thought that it is so much pollution being spread from the tires burning. I got a bit distracted by the thai news sometimes because I was very interested in it. I didn’t go anywhere outside my house. It was a challenge because usually I feel bored at home and like going out for a drive or just getting some work done on buying the things I need. Even after the school work was done, I listened to the news at various times for example, 6:00 pm. At night yesterday I heard that Central world was still burning because no fire trucks could get in. It is a loss because Central world is a place where people like to shop. And if it’s too burnt down then everyone will be sad and the employees/workers will have lost their jobs as Mr. Sam said.
I was really distracted all day too… I was so distracted that I didn’t manage to write many reports. I may even have written some nice ones because I was so distracted… I’ll have to read them and check so I can make them bad again!!!
It was very sad and horrible that some shopping malls was on fire! 😦
I was distracted to and I also heard news from other family members.
The Situation was trrible yesterday and I had to move out of my house in the morning to Hua Hin. I had to work extra hard yesterday to finish the work given. I ended up being very very worried because my house is 47 years and it is in the red zone so we don’t want it to be burned down. It was horrible because all the malls like central worlld, Siam paragon, Siam square, Platinum and Pantip plaza +32 more places were burnt. It was horrible very horrible. I ended watching the news for nearly the whole day. The smoked looked horrible and my maids had to suffer from the strong smell of the smoke…….HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE 😦
Hi Sujinna, I’m really sorry that this has affected you so much and I agree, it is truly horrible.
How was the journey to Hua Hin?
One of my friends had to go to Hua Hin to because she was near the dangerous areas.
I agree, some people have to moved out and go somewhere because they lived near or in the red zone.
I went to Hua hin because I live in soi 31 and then we thought that maybe it would be safer for us to go to Phuket because then its a lot further than Hua hin is to Bangkok. Sujinna I hope your alright because I was about just as scared as you were because on friday evening I got a call from my parents and they said to pack because we were leaving I got so frightened I almost cried.
It’s good but now i’m back I’m at my grandma’s at Thonburi
Oh also in yesterday morning, the main power station exploded so I couldn’t do anything much
I agree, the power went out for quite a long time.
Yea I agree too,
the electricty power went out for a long time and it’s also inconveniet.
Really because at my house it was perfectly fine, nothing happened to the power station.
My house’s electricity didn’t go out, I think its becuase where I am right now isn’t close to the city.
Soi 20 dont have electricity but maybe they do now and also one of the TV channel stations exploded. People were stuck in there and fire trucks couldnt rescue them so then helicopters needed to take action.
Chanel 3 can’t be viewed any more
yaeh when I try to look some pictures of them(red shirt) the news doesn’t show and channel 3 can’t be viewed
I saw on Bangkok post that the building where they host channel 3 got burnt down
I didn’t know that channel 3 is cut off. My dad has the bangkok post right now, so I might check it later.
I did but then they said it’s just temporarily down because not the whole thing is burnt so it should be on again soon
Now channel three is already back. Also the people who burnt down channel 3 actually wanted to burn down a Bangkok bank branch but the Bangkok bank is in the same building as channel 3 so it burned down as well.
The last 24 hours for me was scary because the demonstration were right outside our soi and we played a lot so when we went to our friends house we sprinted and biked like mad. Also when we were swimming, we heard vehicles and when we heard the helicopters we pretended they were going to bomb so we went under water and when we heard cars we would freeze till they were gone so that they wouldn’t hear us. Also when we watched the news we were shocked because there were fires and tanks in Bangkok. Also a photographer from the Bangkok post was shot dead.
I think an Italian reporter was shot too.
Really? Lots of people are dying. Sad huh?
Good News- Lumpini is safe now
Bad News- Only one way to the airport
Actually there is no way to the airport now my godfather was going to the airport but he couldn’t get there.
Actually there is one through Bang Na. It was day before yesterday. Maybe its closed now.
Actually, You can drive to Uttaphao and fly from there.
Uttaphao is a military airport, it can only be used to normal people on special occasions only.
A French
I saw lots of tanks to.
In my area I didn’t see any tanks. I guess it’s because I live in soi 31. But I saw lots of police right outside my building.
I saw the tanks on tv I mean
Oh ok. Then I saw them too.
live near the pra ministers house in 31 so I saw some slimier to tanks
Yea, there’s a lot of tanks
I didn’t actually see tanks but I saw them on television. Lots of them. There are rumors that there are snipers going around. There are helicopters too.
Yes I heard that there are snipers too. helicopters could be heard from where i live.
Same here helicopters, M79 and other things such as fire crackers
Yesterday I was in my house all the time. After I finished my school work I mucked about on my mom’s iphone, I also played a few games on the computer on the sites Mr. Sam sent us in the last day plan. Then at about 5:30 p.m. I asked my mom if I could and meet my friends outside. She said no because there were gunshots near our house and that some of those gunshots belonged to snipers. There were also helicopters in the sky. It was quite scary. So I just watched an old movie called `The Devil wears the Prada’. My mom decided to go for a walk in with her friends downstairs. I reminded her about the curfew and she said she will be back by quarter to 8. When she came back she decided to check the news so we watched some CNN. Then we watched some serials until 10 p.m.. Then we all went to sleep.
I felt quite scared too. Lot’s of things were happening at the same time.
Last night my mom, sister and cousin were going to eat dinner outside but then all the shops and gas stations were closed because they were scared if they were going to get burnt. We went to get our dinner from the market (there were lots of people because of the shops being closed)and saw a helicopter fly over us. I also saw some smoke but I don’t know where it came from. I watched the news last night and saw Central World and Zen burn down.:(
A lot of places got burnt down not only Central world. It was a big loss because it’s somewhere people like to go often.
Yea like ZEN and stuff
I wonder who burnt down Central World/Zen?
Some teeagers. is identified as Krit.
In the papers today. Must read.
I actually find central world a lousy place to shop compared to Paragon and MBK etc…
No Way !! Ranvir. Centralworld is really a good place to shop. It is the 3rd biggest shopping mall in the world (I think). Don’t forget to look at the big picture, centralworld being burnt down ruins the economy, ruins shopkeepers lives, less tourists etc..
Good points, Mick. I like the way you brought the “big picture” into the conversation. It’s not just about where we like to shop and how sad we are that the nice mall has gone. It’s about the real issues of work, economy and well-being.
Some people say that there are another group of people who wear a different coloured shirt.
Yeah I agree that Central world is a really good place to shop.
In the last 24 ours I was bored to death in my house. I was going to walk down my road to seven 11 and I remember that there was a curfew so I watched some news, I could see the main road where they all came marching down (evey individual had a rubber tyre) and they were chanting something there was even a guy who was screaming into the mircophone. This went on for nearly 45 minutes. Then I saw a load of smoke from Ratchaprasong (Pratoonam) burning and getting closer each second, the sky was grey and the air was very thick. I heard a slight snip of a gun shot. Then the next thing I knew on the news they said “Person sniped of the balcony, please do not stick your head out of the window or balcony” I heard lots of people sreaming shouting, lots of gun shots and HUGE BOOMS FROM EXPLOSIONS there were lots of choppers in the sky circling our area. I was a horrible day yesterday, there were people sreaming shouting, people injured, soldiers dead lots of burning buildings and lots of gun shots and big explosions. 😦
wow that sounds like you could of got hurt was it really that bad?
sounds really scary
Yea the smoke really was very thick in the air.
My grandfather has 2 hotels in Pratoonam.
I hope they didn’t get burnt down because of those people
My dad he also had to travel to singapore for an important meeting. I was very worried when he had left to the airport. But luckily it was safe, He had took the other way. So it was safe.
Ya I COULD ALSO SEE THIK SMOKE FROM MY APT
I think everyone saw smoke from their apartment. I took 5 pictures of them.
I was at my house most of the time yesterday. We were quite afraid of the people who are burning things because they also burnt banks, shopping malls and theatres. It was quite unbelieveable because centralworld was quite big but it burnt down. Many people I know have no electricity and water. We also bought quite a lot of food in case supermarkets close. I was really really really sad Ctw burnt down because I like to go to centrawlworld so much.
Yesterday, after school work, I went for an afternoon nap. While I was asleep, my mom and dad were watching the news on the internet. At four, I woke up and my dad got a phone call. To my surprise, it was my grandmother. She was baffled by a group of dudes burning down the Bangkok Bank that is less that half a kilometer from her house. Also, after that, I heard that group of people came and burnt down that Bangkok Bank near my house which is 500 meters away from it. My family stayed home the whole day but it was absolutely not boring at all. Instead of staying and watching the news all day long, I chatted with my parents about various things.
Ping Ping
OMG.
Why do the red shirts have to burn down bangkok bank?
Ping Ping
There is a person who is in charge of the 2006 military coup he is the advisor or something for Bangkok bank.
Yesterday I was in my house all the time because my dad said that there are snipers out side for reall. The electricity was gone too. When the electricity go out I always do the same thing. I always get a towel and let it soke water, let the water go out and put it aroun my neck so that I don’t get hot. At our house most of the things is from electriciy and when the electricity was out it was time to eat. Our eyes was going in a circle. WE COULDN’T COOK!!!! We waited and waited… and it was time to sleep!! We were going to sleep… and then the light were back!!!! yea—- I was happy!! But I was hungry.
I wrote it on my own. I made a mistake for the name.
In the last 24 hours I was in home and I was looking the smoke with binoculars. And I told to my parents that like “There is new smoke!!” And also I could see people on the road and my mom was surprised. I was stayed home and I observationed the smoke and told to my dad and dad tald other people, so I thought I am a source of information.
sorry the nam is diffeent
for mine
The last 24 hours it was scary because I saw the people/gangs marching up and I also saw people trying to run away and escape. Outside my balcony I heard a lot of horrible noises. People were shouting and they were a horrible explosions!I also thick grey smokes. I was watching CNN and other news and they said some shopping malls like Central world was set on fire! Like Mr.Sam said it was sad for the worker/stafs/employees to loose their jobs. Yesterday I was at home all day because of the curfew. I hope that today it will get better. 🙂
Yesterday it was really boring staying in my house the whole time, I was playing my ds, wii, phone and t.v. I went up stairs and I saw like 5 places that had smoke and a bad smell of burning tires. Even if all the windows were closed, I could till smell that stinky smell. Many helicopters, bombs, and gun shots were heard for an hour. Then the electrcity got shut down for about 2 hours, in the 2 hours I tried calling my friends they didn’t pick. Unluckily, my phone ran out of battery, my ds too. When I went upstairs again the sky was nearly black, when I looked down I saw these people coming in to the oposite land (empty plot of land). I think it was the protestors which came out and find a place to live. There was 3 womens and 2 babies. I started to get worried when they annouced there was going to be a curfew. When the electrciity came back, I was watching tv and central world was burning 😦 My favortie shopping place 😦 I thought it was going to open soon but it’s not going to be. Later on, Facebook didn’t work for some reason I think they blocked it. All the shopping malls were closed 😦 In the morning, I till hear gun shots. Today will probably be another boring day staying home.
Central world burnt down, its not only that that is being burnt.
They have to rebulid it again
Central world is unlucky because even before there was a bomb in Central world.
Oh yea! I forgot about that too and central was also burned down many many many years ago too. Same owner I guess.
It will take 5 years to rebuild. This time, with more technology and more class.
They might not build it again. The owners of central might already be bankrupt because almost every central is closed right now and also centara hotel which is owned by the owners of centrawlworld is also being burnt.
Ya Its is probally to expensive
They will give their lives for it Mick. The news came already.
It’s just one part of central world, isnt it?
Most of the burnt down parts of centralworld is Zen, the other side is called Isetan, it didn’t burn down and will be opened in 6 months
Well for starters my parents and my maid is out of town so I have to say with my moms friend and that my moms friend husband company says that they have to go out of town for a few days we have to go with them so blha and when my mom comes back pepsi says that we have to go out of town but then the flight we have to go on is at 10 and there is a Corfu so ??? they should think before acting. But the goood thing is I get to see my grandma on friday :D.
I was in my apartment all the time yesterday. I wasn’t allowed on my balcony because there was shooting at Asok. I could smell the smoke from the burning tires and it stung my eyes. I wasn’t allowed down at the lobby because of the shooting. Our pool is on the 25th floor, from there I could see flames from the fire burning on Rama 4. It was the electricity station, so we had no power for a long time. When I was swimming in the pool, ash was falling from the sky. It was quite scary and we talked about leaving bangkok but then we were told that there was a curfew so we stayed.
Yesterday my mom was supposed to go to the shop and when my mom was half way there she came back home because she said that it madness. My mom, my sister and I was thinking of going to central just to walk around but when we went to see the news we saw smoke everywhere. Where I live yesterday the sky was totally blue and over there the sky is totally grey. I heard that Facebook is going to be band in Bangkok because they don’t want us to communicate with Facebook. WHAT IS HAPPENING TO BANGKOK, THE LAND OF SMILES.
The land of smile may become the land of sadness:(
I agree Nikki
I hope it get better soon! Less tourism are coming to visit Thailand
I agree with both of you. Hope Thailand get’s healed from the sadness.
Around 40 countries are not aloud to come here.
It’s very interesting how other countries are handling this bangkok situation.
I’m of to Japan in 2 weeks.
Yeah it is like the land of sadness because people are having to move out of there house and live somewhere else.
Very interesting. That the sky was blue in your area and the shopping mall places are all smokey and grey. We just have to see today if Bangkok is getting worse or not. I think most of everyone who is in Bangkok they have a day off from their jobs as you said that your mom cam back home because it was madness.
But Rosna,
My mom didn’t go to the shop yesterday but she just left from the house around 15 minutes ago.
My Mom has to work at home this week because of the protesters.
The picture on top doesn’t even look like its real.
But it is really real. Yesterday was really scary, so many people have been killed. Did you know that about 65 people have been killed since March.
Its getting worse and worse everyday
Yes it is. People are getting killed, everyday everyone hopes for the best but if this is the best for thailand then what will happen next?
I agree with Rosna.
If this is the best for thailand what will happen next?
84 Killed and 181 injured.
I think 84 people killed might not be so much. From the scale of the disaster if the Prime Minister didn’t stay calm more than 100 people could have been could.
I agree with you Mick.
You are right, Mick. In many countries, when something like this happens hundreds and sometimes thousands of people are killed.
What will happen next is that again there will be curfew. tonight at 9pm till I dont know what.
Actually the curfew is 8pm to 6am in the morning.
Yea the curfew is 8pm to 6am in the morning it will happen again today
They already changed it since thursday, the curfew is 9pm to 5am like Ranvir said.
Before the curfw was 8 to 6 so i guess it changed.
It did change
Lots of pollution
I just researched on google and found out that the curfew this night is 9 pm to 5 am. Many reporters from different countries have been injured or killed. Some of the army was killed while trying to break in a temple where several thousands of red shirts were taking refuge. When the red shirts left the army searched the place and found from 6-8 people dead. It is all very tragic. I just hope all this stops soon so I can pick my father from the airport next week. I am not so sure I will be able to see him until I go on 31st of May to India. I just hope for the best.
Did you know that one of them was wearing a red shirt with Gandhi’s picture saying peace on it?
I am very sad about this situation. Yesterday I spent most of my time watching tv, making calls and using internet. I could see the black smoke from my house. I was quite scared eventhough my house is not so close. Hopefully, the worst is over. We all need to be calm and hope for the best.
I agree with you Mick. You said everything that I feel of this situation.
Hi Mick,
I like the way you said “We all need to be calm and hope for the best.”
I agree with you Nikki. It is a powerful sentence.
After may 19 it started to get a little better for me and my family. It has started to cslm down a bit. And I can not see any more blakc smoke from my balcony. My building had to turn on the emrgency generator quite a few times. But I think that this situation in Bangkok will get better. What do you guys think?
How do you think Central World and Zen, Siam, burnt down? I mean they are pretty big buildings. They must have been pretty hard to burn.
They burnt down because they were on fire for a long time and the people who set the fire set quite a lot of fire so the building burnt down. But some part of CentrawlWorld didn’t burn down yet.
200-300 people set a fire in there. That’s a lot of people.
Ping Ping
I saw people looting things from Central world on the news.
There was quite a lot of looting, in the news it showed a picture of a looted 7 eleven and all the shelves were empty.
😦
I think that’s why all the 7-11s have newspaper on the windows. I’m not sure how the newspaper would protect it though!!!
M79 grenades everywhere.
Yeah I agree, loads of tires being burnt down.
Ping Ping
The tires being burned down will cause loads of pollution also it is hard to clean.
😦
“If you lose hope, somehow you lose the vitality that keeps life
moving, you lose that courage to be, that quality that helps you go on
in spite of it all. And so today I still have a dream”
Quote from Prime Minister Abhisit Vejajiva.
This is a very good quote. I like it!
There are a lot of conversations and comments!
HI
I have been staying in my house for this most of the week.
So, I haven’t went out to the street because it really dangerous because of the protest. But my mom went to buy some food and water.
I heard in news the central world is burning down because of the protesters head masters or someone else.
And I heard some lot’s of shooting sounds
Atmosphere in the city was terrible because the place where the puff of smoke came out was in near to my friends house so they told me their thwart hearts
