Mr. Will Teaching Year 6 Teachers How to Blog

August 31, 2009 4 comments

Teachers need to learn new skills and information all the time so that they can be better at their job. Today, Mr. Will taught us how to set up and manage our class blogs so that we can use them in class and so that our students can access them at home. It is possible to do all sorts of very cool things using a blog… just wait and see! Have any of you ever used blogs before? Make a comment with your answer.

Here are some photos of the kids in 6SS collaborating on projects. Collaborating means working together effectively.

The kids have identified the behaviours that are vital for good collaboration:

  • “When I share ideas, I get ideas back.” Nathan
  • “Show them that I am also part of a team.” Rosna
  • “Cooperate, because if we do not cooperate no work will get done.” Karam
  • “Have knowledge to share.” Johann
  • “All have a job and work together as a team.” Samantha
  • “Take turns and share our opinions.” Nikki

Collaborating is a big challenge – most adults find it really difficult! The kids of 6SS will really be trying to develop their collaborative skills this year.

Essential Agreements

The students have collaborated in order to decide on five “essential agreements” that will govern behaviour this year. The aim of essential agreements is for all students to have a happy and successful day at school every day.

Here are the 6S agreements:

  • “Treat people the way you want to be treated, with respect.”
  • “Know when to have fun and when to be serious, for the people around you will be affected.”
  • “Be organized.”
  • “Become open-minded, use your creativity and share ideas.”
  • “Everybody makes mistakes and we develop as we learn from them.”

We will be referring to and discusing the agreements on a regular basis so that they become a real part of our lives.

In class we have been discussing the importance of being safe online and what you should do if you encounter a problem online.

Here is a short video to help remind you of these discussions
