Homework: Questions about next year

You will be having some more sessions with Y7 teachers and students , so that you can find out more about what life will be like in Year 7. They would like to know what your questions are so that they can answer them really well for you.

What questions do you have about next year?

Make comments to share your questions, add on to other people’s questions or even answer some of them!

In humanities, does the teacher tell you if your going to learn about history, geography, etc?

In secondary, why do we have 3 breaks (snack, lunch, cross-over) ?

In MYP, will there be level interactions?

In MYP, will the teachers help you if your stuck on something or you don’t understand?

    Dear 6SS,

    1. My questions are:

    2. Why do we have houses?

    3. Why do we have a teacher for every subject?

    4. How long is crossover?

    5. How long is a class?

    6. Who is the secondary council?

    7. When do we get our computers?

    8. Who is orange house home teacher for year 7?

    9. When is next spirit day?

    • May 15, 2012 at 7:56 pm

Crossover is as long as snack, I think and we get our computers in the first week of school. (the teachers mentioned the computers) The teachers also mentioned that class is 80 minutes.

    Hi 6ss,
For today the comments that I have are.
    1. Does everybody get to go build a house in habitat for humanity.
    2. What do we learn in science class (Science experiments or just how it works).
    3. How do we get house points.
    4. How many times are we going to do house events.
    5. Do house points gat taken away.
    6. What are all of the subjects that we take (History PE reading).

    • May 15, 2012 at 7:59 pm

It is optional to volunteer for habitat for humanity, and I think you can only start at a certain age.(I am not sure which age but I don’t think you can in yr.7)

  4. May 15, 2012 at 4:13 pm

    Hello 6ss,
    These are my questions :]

What class will I be in next year?
Will I be with the same people in each class?
    Who are the teachers?
Is there gonna be new students?
Is there gonna be new teachers?
(I agree with Zola) Why do we have houses?
    How many subjects are there?

    • May 15, 2012 at 5:16 pm

The subjects are probably 7. I think that was one of the question in the game we played.

      • May 15, 2012 at 5:30 pm

        Hi Mari,

Yes, it was one of the questions in the game we played but I think there are 8 subjects.

      • Mari
        May 15, 2012 at 5:51 pm

        Oh yeah it’s 8

    • May 15, 2012 at 8:00 pm

You will find out what class you are in a week before school starts.

      • May 15, 2012 at 8:45 pm

Oh ok!!! So excited !!! 😀

        • May 17, 2012 at 6:31 pm

Thanx for the info guys! :]

  5. May 15, 2012 at 4:29 pm

    Hi 6SS,

    My questions are:

How does the house system work?
    What is our schedule?
What do we do on the crossover time?
Can we keep the Acer Netbooks forever?
Where do we learn our third languages?
Do we have lots and lots of homework?
(I agree with Mara&Zola) Why do we have houses?
What to we exactly have to do on spirit day?
What is the rules in secondary?

    • May 15, 2012 at 5:15 pm

I also wonder What is the rules in secondary? Good thinking!!!! 😀

    • May 15, 2012 at 8:06 pm

Crossover is like snack and lunch, and we have crossover because it fits perfectly into our schedule. We have to give back our computers, when we leave NIST. Spirit day is to celebrate what house you are in, and show your spirit of that house, you play games, against all the other houses, etc.

      • May 16, 2012 at 5:13 pm

        Thanks for your information Hannah!

      • May 16, 2012 at 6:23 pm

You know a lot, Hannah! These information really is helping me to be ready for secondary!

    Hi everyone,

    My questions

    When is spirit day?
What are the rules in secondary? (I agree with Jimin)
Who is yellow house homeroom Teacher?
When will we be able to buy food In the other crafeteria?
    How long is on period?
    How many breaks are they?
While we have less or more Homework?

    • May 15, 2012 at 8:08 pm

I can see that we have more homework, because there are lots of different subjects, and we will have three subjects a day(I think) and we will get homework from nearly all of them. We wll be able to buy food in the cafeteria as soon as we come to secondary.

  7. May 15, 2012 at 4:42 pm

    Hi everyone!

I don’t really have a lot of Q’s in my mind cause my brother tells me things about secondary school. My Q’s are…

    1. When do most of the secondary school kids sleep?

    2. How many people from year 7 (right now) have been on the honor list?

These are my question for now. I will keep posting if I think of more questions.

    Yuki 👿

    • May 16, 2012 at 6:25 pm

      Hi Yuki,

I find the first question very interesting. I read this book about brains and its said that elementary and adults has to sleep about 8 hours. But secondaries, because its the most important time that you grow, need to sleep about 10 hours.

  8. May 15, 2012 at 4:53 pm

    Hi 6SS,

The things I really want to get strait are:
    1. What is the big difference between elementary and secondary?
    2. How will we know where to go after a subject since there are so many?

A few other things I want to know about is:
    1. How do we choose our house leader or is it the teacher?
    2. What level floor will our homeroom be on?
    3. How often is spirit day?

Red house is AWESOME! Sorry, just thought it was good for the occasion.

    • May 15, 2012 at 8:18 pm

We will have a schedule with us most of the time, or we know it off by heart. We will only have spirit day once.

  9. May 15, 2012 at 5:07 pm

    I was wondering…

    How long is crossover?

How long will our house meetings be for?

How much homework will we get?

What happens if we get a really bad computer that’s all broken.

    • May 15, 2012 at 5:12 pm

For the last question I think you get a new one or it is going to get fixed.

      Mariiiiiii 😀 🙂 😀

    • May 15, 2012 at 8:23 pm

Crossover is as long as snack. We will definitely get more homework than we do right now. You can’t get a computer that is all broken and bad because they will check your computer before you leave/get a new one to see if everything works, and if there are some major problems that have to be fixed with money the child/parent of Child has to pay. If the computer breaks completely they will have to pay for a new computer.

  10. May 15, 2012 at 5:11 pm

    Hi 6ss 😀 🙂 :D,

    My questions are

    Why do we have houses?
    Why are there 6 houses?
Why do we have an animal or creature for each house?
In secondary why do we have 3 breaks not 2 like Elementary?
How long is the Break, Lunch and the cross over?
Why are we allowed to go outside school when Elementary are not?
Why do we have to start the class earlier in Secondary?
Who is the homeroom teacher for Blue House?
Who is the councilor for the secondary?
When do we get the computers?
How do we get house points?
How many events are there one a year?

    • May 15, 2012 at 5:29 pm

      Hi Mari,

Those are really interesting questions! 😀

  11. May 15, 2012 at 5:11 pm

    Hi everyone!

Here are some of my questions.

    1. Is secondary harder than elementary?
    2. We’ll we do fine?
    3. I want to know more about the house system, etc.
    4. Will there be teachers that I will be comfortable with like I had in elementary?
    5. Will I have teachers that I will trust?
    6. Will I have good friends that will fit me?
    7. Can we do great things and present our revolution in Yr.7 too? Maybe a little exhibition?
    8. Does being not in the same house mean we can’t be friends?
    9. Do we have a lot of tests?
    10. I want to know more about the report cards.
    11. How can we control our mind in the spirit day and be responsible? What is the motto for it?

    See you,

    • May 15, 2012 at 5:30 pm

I bet secondary is harder than Elementary but we have to challenge!!!!

    • May 15, 2012 at 5:41 pm

      Also the question 8,

My friends and I have like promised that we won’t be enemies just because we are in different houses. Maybe you can try that with your friends? Maybe it might not work!! Maybe you can get advice from Ms.Ashely.

      And also for question 6,

I am sure you will have good friends in your house!!!! I know everyone in my house except for the other years so I am lucky!!!!! That’s what I was scared when I was not in the same house with my friends. I was very worried if I was going to fit in!!!!! You can try making friends and I think you will be friends when you are working in your house group. When I came to NIST, I was very shy and I didn’t know how to fit in because I didn’t know English at all!!!! But my good friends now were the ones that had supported me. I knew that I was supposed to try to be friends with them but I was again lucky!!!!! I can’t just wait for people to ask me to be their friends! I have to take the action!!!!! What was the quote again? I think it was “Don’t wait for others to do it, you do it!!!” I love quotes!!!! It’s my key to my life!!!!! I can advice friends just like you Vicky!!!! I hope what I wrote helped!!!!

      • May 15, 2012 at 7:09 pm

Great suggestion, Mari! Did you realize after Friday, the students were saying things like, ‘oh, my house is cool!’ something like that and at first, it was pretty fun but now it’s really annoying. Is that for you too? Anyways, Thanks for the advice!

        • May 15, 2012 at 7:58 pm

I know!!!! Oh my god my house is the best blah blah blah!!!! It gets sooo annoying but I like that they are grateful!!!! LOL!!!

        • May 15, 2012 at 8:12 pm

Nice to hear my advice helped!!!

    Hi 6SS,
    1. My questions are:
    2. Why is our classes different from our homeroom classes?

    4. Why do we have a house system?
    5. Why is the house system competitive?
    6. Do i have different subjects with different people?
7.How is life in secondary like?
    8. Is it hard to handle this big change for you?
    9. What will happen if you have computer problems in a middle of a class.

Wow Tammana! You have a lot of questions! Interesting!

  14. May 15, 2012 at 6:33 pm

    Hi Everyone,

So these are my questions I want to ask the Year 7s:

    • In secondary, why do we have to rotate music, art and drama?
    • How do we get marked for our report cards?
    • What is the purpose of Spirit Day?
    • What is the purpose of house points and how do you earn them?
    • I’ve heard that if you don’t wear your house t-shirt on the day you’re supposed to, you have to pay some money to your teacher. Is this true and if so, how much do you have to pay?
    • What is the purpose of APS (action, performance and service) and what do we do for it?
    • What are the other activities we do for house besides Spirit Day?
    • Which classes do we go to with our house and which ones do we go to with our other class?
    • Why do we have 2 different classes?

  15. May 15, 2012 at 6:58 pm

    Hi 6SS,

So my questions about next year is that why do we have houses and why is each person put specifically in that coloured house?

And why do we have spirit day, what’s the point?

How is the report cards for next year and how will the system be, will it be much more different than the elementary system that we are used to?

And why is there 3 trimesters and not 2 semesters?

And when will be get our laptops and do the teachers have some kind of password that can look at what students have done?

What are the rules in secondary?

How will the homework be and why do we need rubrics for each assessment?

    How long is crossover?

What kinds of house activities will we do?

What happens if you are on the honor roll or not, will it help you in the school but really what’s the point?

And another question that I have is last year students were given a small survey about changing the Green House’s mascot and they had three choices: Gators, Snakes, and Leprechauns and even though everyone voted Leprechauns why is it Gators?

    Melis 🙂

  16. May 15, 2012 at 7:13 pm

Hi Mari, thanks for the advice. You know how people are saying things like, ‘oh, my house is so pro’ and that? First it was fun and I had some fun too but now it is really annoying. Is that for you too? Also people sometimes get rude and say some things like, ‘I wish I was in Green house, etc’ and I was thinking, ‘Wow! They are not even grateful that they even have a house! Anyways, thanks for helping.

    Vicky 🙂

    Hi Guys,

    These are my questions …

    1. Can we change our houses mascot ?

    2. Is there more fun games in year 7 ?

    3. Do they have more strict rules ?

    4. Is science class going to have more some science experiments ?

    5. Why don’t they make more color houses ?

    6. In Blue house there are so many popular people why not they mix it up a little ?

    7. What will happen if some one comes late ?

    9. Is math going to be much much harder ?

Well that’s all I can think of see you guys tomorrow !

    Love Gina

  18. May 15, 2012 at 7:52 pm

From my sister, I can see that she sometimes has a whole load of homework and then, suddenly she has about no homework at all. I was wondering if there is a reason why they do this.
I was also wondering why they change the way they each in secondary.
Do secondaries learn more independently?Do students behave differently because they have many different teachers?
What are the basic rules that apply in the secondary building, that might not apply in elementary?

These are the most important and most relevant questions I can think of.

    • May 15, 2012 at 8:00 pm

  21. May 15, 2012 at 8:35 pm

    • These are the questions I would like to ask the Year 7’s :

    • What if we forget our house shirts? What do we do? What happens if you forget it more than 10 times?

    • How does it feel to move up from “Elementary” to “Secondary” and being the smallest again?

    • What are the daily routines we have in Secondary?

    • What sort of stuff do we do in house?

    • What does assembly look like in Secondary?

    • Where are all the specialist places? Are some the same as elementary? (Music, Art, PE, WL etc)

    • Since we will have computers, what if we forget to bring it?

    • Do we still have Unit Of Inquiry in Year Seven? If we don’t have UOI what is the replacement of that?

    • I wonder what they will do with all the homeroom subjects we have been learning in elementary.

    • Did your friendship disappear because you were in different houses? Or because you weren’t in the same class?

    Heyy Aryan,

I was also wondering what the difference is between secondary and elementary?
    What do you think?

I am pretty sure I have more questions to ask but I just can’t think of them now!

    May 15, 2012 at 9:55 pm

    I was wondering:

Can we use our own computers instead of the Acers?

    What are the different subjects?

How do we get on to the honor list and how many Year 7s have been on it?

Can we not participate in any House activities if we don’t want to?

How does the class and house organization system work? (Why was I put into this house and also who will be in my class next year-and how they do it, if there is any criteria or something like that)

    What is cross-over?

Can we do learning to achieve a higher house point( or whatever/however they use)

How do we rotate for MAD?

I want to know more about the report cards

What happens if you don’t wear our house shirt on house day(or an occasion like that)?

Are three tri-mesters equivalent to 2 semesters or is it more?

Can we change our house’s mascot( I am in purple and I don’t want my mascot to be a penguin and I have ideas on what it could be)?

Can we do academics (Mathematics, Humanities etc) during house time?

What to we do for APS?

I tried to think of a lot, but these are my questions for now.
I will keep posting if I have more questions.
