Homework – making progress

Tonight is really your only chance to prepare for tomorrow’s checkpoint. This has been a crazy week!

Tomorrow, I will be expecting you to do the following things:

  • Explain which key concepts you think will help you become an expert on your spark and why
  • Share the driving questions you have created so far and where you think you can get answers to those questions
  • Share some of the most interesting information you have found using those questions
  • Involve the adults that visit us tomorrow in conversations about your spark, the work you have been doing and progress you think you have been making
  • Find ways to involve them in your learning by asking questions and seeking advice

Make a comment to tell us what you plan to do tonight to make sure you’re ready for tomorrow.

OK. But what are you going to do tonight so that your work is better tomorrow?

  3. March 29, 2012 at 4:43 pm

    Hi 6ss,

For tomorrow’s Checkpoint #2 I am going to show a prensentation that I made. In the presentation I am going to show the concepts. I will show whic concepts I thought was easiest, which I thought was important and which is the hardest.

      March 29, 2012 at 7:19 pm

That sounds interesting. What are you going to do tonight to help you do a great job tomorrow?

      • March 29, 2012 at 7:37 pm

I made a GREAT powerpoint. I think it is very interesting. i am sure that the powerpoint want make the parents sleep!!!

  4. March 29, 2012 at 5:05 pm

    Hi 6SS,

I kind of already know what my concepts are…..but I need to understand how they will help me better….I will probably just think about how they are connected to my spark and things like that. My concepts are causation and form.

I have not really made any questions but I have made a few that will actually tell me what really is happening in the orphanage if I ask the owner, workers or orphans.

I haven’t asked any questions to the orphans yet and I can’t do that at 6 o’clock at night. But I could somehow get in-touch with them and ask them some questions.

I haven’t made that much progress this week, but if I can get in-touch with 1 of the 3 orphanages I am thinking about then I could get some really key information.

Find ways to involve them in your learning by asking questions and seeking adviceb

I will try to get some questions I could ask the adults for tomorrow. I could also ask them if there is any other information they think I should have found.

Have you got the information about the orphanage? Can you get hold of that tonight?

To prepare for tomorrow’s checkpoint I will search for some persuasive facts to make the school think that they should bring Ping-Pong tables into school.

  6. March 29, 2012 at 5:10 pm

For the checkpoint tomorrow, I am going to explain about 2 concepts: Causation and Responsibility. Causation is an important part of my exhibition because I definetly need to know why people eat junk food and why they make it. Responsibility is important because no one knows who’s responsible for all the junk food that’s been made.

I found out that people work in junk food factory just because of money. Than I asked myself: Is money important than people’s health? So answers can make more questions.
Also people eat junk food because they’re busy. Is business important than yourself?

I am going to show people the powerpoint I made for presenting. It’s a short powerpoint. Today I am going to find some powerful pictures. Shocking pictures.

  7. March 29, 2012 at 5:18 pm

Tonight I’m asking a question to my family about perspective.
The question is….. What do people think about abusing the cats and pigeons?
I’m also going to write down some of the sources for some questions. Probably for 5 questions.

    • Mr. Sam
      March 29, 2012 at 7:26 pm

What “people” do you mean? Are you asking your family what they think about abusing cats and pigeons? Or, are you asking them what they think other people think about abusing cats and pigeons?

  8. March 29, 2012 at 5:27 pm

    Hey 6ss,

For Checkpoint #2 tomorrow I will show the parents my key concept questions and tell them why I think they are so important. I also want to tell them who I have contacted to help me with my questions, and who can help me find out the real “truth”.

    • Mr. Sam
      March 29, 2012 at 7:27 pm

Great. And, what will you do tonight to improve your work?

  9. March 29, 2012 at 5:38 pm

Today, I planned that I am going to interview parents this question, ‘Why Do Parents Pressure Their Children?’ Actually I did lots of intervies and I am trying to do as many people as I can. Tommorow, I will show some graphs, interviews, etc I did yesterday.

    See you,

    Vicky

So, are you asking parents that question tonight? Which parents?

      • March 29, 2012 at 8:06 pm

I asked Ms.Gina, Ms.Tara, Mom, Dad ad more! They were so interesting to talk to. I never talk to lots of parents but now I think I gained more confidence! I did ask the questions

  10. March 29, 2012 at 6:10 pm

For checkpoint #2 tomorrow I am going to show my key concepts which are CAUSATION, and CHANGE, I choose these concepts because I can really drive and have a lot of ideas for it and it will improve my exhibition and I will get new ideas that can help what I am trying to achieve. I also interview lots of people that and got their perspectives, and made a graph. I am going to show all my information by making a power point, and explaining instead of making them read it.

    Hi,

For prep for tomorrow I made a very simple PowerPoint about my key focus and some of my key questions. I also wrote out a script about what I’m going to say. On Friday I am going to show the parents my PowerPoint and talk about my key concepts, my key questions and why I chose them.

I’m also going to ask the parents a question and I’m going to write down their answers in my bubble catcher. The question is “Why do you think gratefulness is important?” I know it is a simple question but sometimes the most simple questions have the most difficult answers.

It sounds like you have done some good preparation for tonight. I think only you, Yasmin and Jimin read my instructions properly and understood that I am asking everyone what they will do TONIGHT to be more prepared for tomorrow.

I already did a video I’m mostly going to talk and explain about my concepts and powerful questions. I have one question for Mr.Sam the question is Can I use the widows 7 computer in the class? I need it for movie maker.

Yes, you can… as you are so organized!

Do you definitely need to make a presentation to help you remember what to say AND memorize what you’re going to say?

  15. March 29, 2012 at 8:07 pm

    Hi everyone!

Today I will work on my speech to my audience because last time when I did it I was really nervous and at some point in the Power Point I completely forgot what to do. Tomorrow I will quickly gather the information and make a graph. I will also quickly practice my speech so I know what it needs to be like. When the parents come in I will start off showing them the key concepts and show them which one I chose. Then I will tell them about the things we did in class until now. I will tell them about the picture conceptual questions and how we got better at asking questions. Then I will tell them about the questions that I made and show a few. After that I will show them the questions that I chose and then show my work what I did.

I will ask my question when the parent sits down. I will ask them two questions. Do you think smoking is bad? Do you think that people who smoke don’t really care about children who might be influenced by them? I think these questions are powerful I could prove there is less parents smoking or more. Also because the last question needs a lot of empathy and there would be a lot of unique answers that I can use.

I hope I could have a successful checkpoint number two!

    Hello 6SS,

For Checkpoint #2 I will show my questions I made for the key concepts which are perspective and causation.

Today I was practicing with my father so that I would be ready and that I know what to say for tomorrow.

I want people to associate skateboarding with fun, creativity and sports. I have made a lot of photos which I think show this association. I will asked the audience which one they like most to be used for exhibition work.

I believe that if I show parents these photos and they think it is funny or good it will already change their perspective.

    Hi,
I am making an improved digital presentation for tomorrow’s checkpoint. I know it is improved because there is more information than last time’s and also I have put some things in that will keep the audience interested. I will try to show my concepts and the questions I have derived from them so far.

I’ll try to present without reading off the screen but it is quite difficult because there is lots of information. Tonight, I am building my presentation from the two slides I created yesterday. I’ll try to present the information in a way the audience will understand.

I will ask for feedback from the audience and I will be standing by ready with my bubble-catcher. I will ask them what they know about smoking in the end to make sure that they learn something and did not waste their time- what is the most important/shocking/shifting fact that you learned today about my spark? This is also a test of how well I can convey my information and knowledge to a audience, so I can learn from this and improve.

    Vin
