Homework: Energy Menu

We are going to make a menu of strategies that you can use to create energy in your PYP Exhibition. Think of all of the strategies that Jamie Oliver used in the Food Revolution, think of strategies that you have seen other students or adults use, think of other strategies that are your own ideas.

Make a comment to tell us the strategies you know. Read each other’s comments so you don’t just end up repeating everything over and over again.

    HI 6SS
The strategies I know are to pick info that is true, pick info that you will be able to say confidently, using a shock-tac-tic, plan before doing something, think before acting and most importantly showing that you care.

I couldn’t think of more. If I do I will write it.

  2. March 27, 2012 at 4:14 pm

    Hi everyone,

The strategies that I know that is to pick up the right information, so instead you see the information from at least 3 websites and then most likely it will be through. Another tactic is shock tactics because if you shock people most people will get shocked and see how bad or good your spark is…..

    Hi everyone,

A stradegie I use is shock tactic because it will reveal a new perspective that the person hasn’t seen. Another stradegie is wwriting or drawing down what your going to do. I also agree with Madhav that if you see good information you should always check if other people syas it is right. Then it is probably true.

Here are some strategies we can use.
    – Flash mob
    – Posters
    – Video
    – TED talk
    – Graffiti cube
    – Demonstrations
    – Create a web-site

    • March 27, 2012 at 7:37 pm

      Heyy Caitie and 6ss,

I agree with ALL of your ideas but you can also give them an actual experience like get them to do something for example an experiment or set up a booth for playing sports (Its similar to Demonstrations)… I also think that we can create a magazine or something that one of my sister’s friend is doing for her personal project. We can also do something more like arty, for example graffiti like you said or a painting, something similar to what Vin is doing for his Creativity Project or a canvas with pictures. MAYBE you can do a powerpoint presentation (That will not bore people) Another strategie that most people mentioned was SHOCK TACTICS and Jamie Oliver used that for his food revolution

  5. March 27, 2012 at 4:44 pm

    Hi 6SS,

One tactic that I know is to first of all vist your ‘target audience’ like I am going to see the orphanage and see if they even need sports stuff like I thought. Another tactic is, as Yasmin said, to shock people. Madhav had a clever idea of to check the information 2-3 times before making up your mind. A tactic I like to use is getting others thoughts on things. If you get someone elses perspective or force a feeling it will make you powerful and in the exhibition they will definitely visit yours.

    Hi 6SS,

For me I think that I’m going to use this tactic. So you just get some of your friends to come and do some thing. For me play Ping Pong as a big tournament. Then people will get interested then ask if they can join.

The ideas that I have in mind for the exhibition to perused people to join you make this exhibition work. My powerful message is that do something that will make people help our community and the environment. The ideas that I have connected to Jamie Oliver are to make like Yasmin said a shock tactic would be great because it would show people a little thing but if you do it everyday it becomes a huge thing, these speaking to everyone in the assembly, create competions to encourage them, speak to the right people who want to help me and to tell others that how important it is to keep our environment clean, make campaigns like nude food did and go around the school to ask people about
    their opinion.

To create a powerful energy, you should know your spark very well.
So first, use powerful words to persuade people. You need to make people listen to you.
Be a risk taker. Take risks on doing something. No risk, no earnings. You need to be confident. Speak loud.
Also use shock tactics to put something strong in people’s head like Yasmin said.
Before you become powerful, make people trust that you will make a change and that you will do it properly.
Okay. I will make a list
    • Use powerful words to persuade people
    • Be a risk taker
    • Shock tactic
    • Explain stuff clearly
    • Earn a lot of trust
    • Be confident
    • Try everything you can
    • Linchpin: Get help from powerful people

    Hi 6SS,

There are a lot of useful tactics that we can use like the shock tactic because it shows different perspectives, or like Billy said your “target audience” that is a very useful tactic because you show your audience that you care and that you will actually do something about it, sometimes strategies like Nude Food are very helpful because they stayed anonymous for a while and that kept people thinking about it then they revealed themselves and went around the school asking people about their opinions.

    Hi 6SS,
There is a lot of useful powerful tactics like shock tactics like Zola said, it is very powerful because it can shift other people’s thinking in a flash. You can actually change the way they think in their whole life if you persuade them using shock tactics , and you can also change their perspective about anything if your shock tactic is actually not quantity but quality. (it’a got to be shocking.)

  12. March 27, 2012 at 6:57 pm

I think that the strategies you have said are good, are very powerful. I think that the most important thing now is, to look at all the things you have written, and pick out the strategies that you think will work best for you, and then see if they do. If the strategies don’t work, you can keep trying, because we have a very big variety of strategies.

The strategy I would also use including all the others is just finding out by getting an idea that just jumped out of your mind and heart, it doesn’t have to be on a list. The best strategies come from you, not by you reading a whole load of strategies, and trying to find your strategy, because you think that the strategies have to already be there.

Make it come from you and your heart.

    -flash mob
    -shock tactics
    -No giving up
    -Graffiti cuboid
    -Thinking out of the box
    -Acctually thinking
    -well edited videos
    -Being well organized
never standing down and always say “yes i can do it”

  14. March 27, 2012 at 7:04 pm

    Hi 6ss,
I want people to understand how I feel about cats in this school. So…..
I can use shock tactics. I have shocked some people already. It is REALLY important to show people that you really care (Like what Yasmin said) , NEVER GIVE UP on your work (like Jimin said) and put EFFORT in everything. As much effort you put in the more powerful work would be.

I don’t think posters would be good for my work because I don’t think posters will catch people’s eyes.

Ideas that I think people can use

    Flah Mob

    Don’t say “I don’t know….”

    Be respectful

    Use interesting or shocking words

    Present in Assembly

    Be Confident

    Speak loud

    Explain well

    (Many things people already said)

    Mari 😀 🙂 😀

    Hi everyone!

These are some energy I know.
I agree with everyone but I think that…

-For shock tactics I think that…
    -Using Powerful images
-Making some things, facts, etc that shocked us and why.
-Actually show a video about what you’ve seen, etc.

-For flash mobs I think that…
    – Good, some singing and singing very clearly
    – Dancing which really means something
-Or even suddenly just talking in front of people!

-For Ted Talks I think that…
-Use the tips from what Mr. Jago showed us; the videos about power points
    – Really make people get in to it.

    -For Presentation I think…
    -Not so many bullet points
    -Showing the 5whys
    -Looking at peoples perspectives
    -Life experiences
    -Some real graphs
    -About Your Nationality

    See you soon everyone!

I think I could use shock tactic to shock people into knowing how bad smoking is so they do not smoke and are well educated about it. My target audience is smokers and non-smokers. I will try to get the smokers to stop and the non-smokers to be aware. I could show some really shocking media to stop smoking. I also employ the same trick as Madhav. To check if some information is true, I cross-reference it with other websites and sources.

I could make posters, digital presentations and videos. You need to have all the information about your topic in hand, so you can manage what you are doing.

A really good tactic is to provoke emotion, so people will follow you. For example, you could fit pictures with some music. Many influential figures have used that strategy. You also see it in movies and on the TV.

  21. March 27, 2012 at 10:09 pm

    My spark: Anti-Smoking

To start a powerful energy I will need to use shock tactics just like Melis and other people. I think shock tactics is necessary because it’s a really strong way of telling the harm of smoking to the audience. It’s also powerful because smoking has a lot of cruel consequences and audience will be amazed and shocked by its consequences. For example if I show this picture http://img.chinasmack.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/graphic-thai-cigarette-warning-labels.jpg and tell them about the consequence they will think of their lives and stop smoking. And l also want to use scientific shocking research data about smoking and conduct interviews to specialists and NIST students to make a creative and interesting power point for presentation.

I also might use simple but to the point posters. I will put powerful images and write a few words just like Nine did with his shark fin soup posters. I will put them around the school so people will understand what I am saying. I think this is powerful because it’s a useful and faster way of spreading things out in the school.

So far I got this much strategies that I think are highly effective. If I think of a few more I will reply to this comment
