Her spark was when she was making a Christmas list to her parents. She thought about the children in Africa and how they won’t get any presents.The shift that she made people think was that we can help them and that they deserve to go to school also.One of the strategies that she used was contact big commpanies and persuead them to sponsor her.

Mallory’s spark was, looking around the room and said she didn’t need any of these stuff, the more she thought about it, she started to think about Africa. It was a powerful spark for her because she wanted to make a difference in Africa and wanted to be the change.
Connections that related to my spark is that I want to try make a difference to the world so that people can stop wasting and throwing out rubbish.
Mallory used the CHURCH to set up booths to tell people about her project, she used the Project Have Hope and Amazima Ministries to help her make her idea work the way it was planned.
I think these are good strategies to use, because he PHH (Project Have Hope) can be a big part of this idea and can do something about it, the same thing for AM (Amazima Ministries) I think the church was a good idea because, everybody goes there and everybody believes in what people are trying to do in church, and since she goes there she can also give full detail to her friends and family if she does it at church.
I think this made her feel amazed, cheerful, pleased etc. because of the way that she succeeded.
This may effect her future in a good way because she’ll have a good education at her job and maybe become a PRESIDANT! I dont know..? Maybe be another Jamie Oliver because she’ll maybe start lots of revolution like that one.
Something to add on. I want to start a revolution like this one but make it about rubbish. I going to do it by starting small.. in the classroom then bigger and bigger and bigger and bigger. I haven’t thought about the whole thing but I am making a plan just to see if the plan will succeed.

Her spark reminded me a lot of that book you guys have been passing around – Where Children Sleep. We look at what some kids have and what other kids don’t have and we must surely think about the differences. I certainly questioned the number of things my daughters have and whether they need or even use all of them!

I think her idea was a really good idea and it became even better because she really pushed it. I think if you put a lot of energy into something it will go really far and I will try to do that in the exhibition. I think it was obvious that she really cared a lot about the children in Africa and that gave her most of the energy for the project. I thought it was really amazing that she did all of that. I think it is important to be very creative when you are doing a project like this because it will help you get more interesting ideas for things. I think she was quite creative to come up with making Christmas cards.

Yes, it is such a simple idea isn’t it? (the Christmas cards). But, it is such a powerful way to raise funds and awareness without just asking people for cash and telling them bad news.

I just relized that ‘Project Yesu’ in Korean is Projest Jesus!
Her spark was when she was in her room making her cristmas list. When she noticed that she didn’t want anything for her self. When she thought carefully about what she wanted to do she thought of the kids in africa who get nothing and that was her spark.
It was powerful for her because she met them face to face at church and she really liked them and they really liked her and she probably felt attached.
My connection is that when thailand was in major flood I was totaly dry and I could have relaxed all weekend but I chose to help out by maing packeges for the people who were in the flood zone. The next weekend I went again but this time I went to experience the flood zone. So I went threw all the water and in a huge truck until we came to a place where they had people who’s house were flooded. At the place they had loads of people it was really sad. So when we arrived we all went to get everything off the truck into the place where everyone was. Then we had people who lived at the place come to us and we would give them toilet tries tooth brush,soap,shampoo,Ect. That was how I spent my 3 weeks that is my connection.
I think her stradegie was to get people to donate and she also contacted Amazima Ministries and Project Have Hope and she told them what she wanted to do. She used big organizations like Daniel and Pat said. I think it is a smart stradegie becasue she got differnt types of people like a radio station a big organizations like Amazima Ministries and Project Have Hope. One time during the flood inquiry Stefan,Yasmin,Melis,Mahdav and Me sent a email to a crocodile farm. It is a connection because she contacted a organization and we contacted one. I think something similar like if I am doing mine exibition about changing uniform I could use the stradegie she did to discuss to important people at NIST (Mr. Simon) about changing the rules to free dress.
She made a change for a lot of kids in Uganda because she sponserd tons of kids in Uganda and that made hope for those kids that they would get a better life. I think what she would probably feel was extremly proud of her self for achiving what she did she probably is very pleased. She is probably thinking what the next step could be for her. It has boosted her reputaion she is world known for a good reason not a bad. Now when people hear of what she had done people would only think of good things to say about her like risk-taker,caring,person who works hard. Someone who is actually cool. I think this affects her future because now she can do the Project Yesu for the rest of her life and she can now think about what the next stage should be.

Just like Mara said the spark was looking around the room and seeing that there was nothing that she needed or wanted for Christmas. I think she had put a lot of effort in gathering money. Mallory is so nice!!! The cards she made for the African children were full of love for the children in Africa. The cards were beautiful. I think I should put in a lot of effort to help something or someone. I want to help the endangered animals. Mallory’s spark was very big. When I told my mom about Mallory, she was moved to hear this story and she thinks I should find something that I can do to help poor people. What is the best idea? Should I donate? Should I go to the place where poor people are? Should I make something for them? Should I help Mallory? It really tells me that Mallory is a girl that wants to change. The spark was very powerful because Mallory wanted to make a big change in Africa.
My mom and I had a discussion (short one) and my mom said usually a rich person doesn’t help poor people. I think it was a good idea to go visit Klongtoey and meet the kids there because when I went there they run to me and wanted to play with me and Hannah. My mom said it was a good opportunity and I also think it was!
I think she had put in effort in making the cards. I mean a lot of effort. I feel really sorry for the children in Africa and how they don’t get anything for Christmas. I feel like we are (people who are RICH) BRATS because we have everything we need in our life and also we get what we want.
I think her strategy was to make the article to make people donate. The article was powerful and had a very good video in the end. It was a good article and a good strategy so many people shared it on Face book, twitter…….

This is going to help me with my future. I want to be a lawyer when I grow up but it might change. When I grow up I want to have a job that helps someone or something. For example, I can be a councilor, vet and lawyer etc. I think a job that you help people is going to be hard so I have to put a lot of effort.
It made my mom feel moved. When I read this article, I was really surprised that 11 year old girl can do this. I think she is very pleased that people have been looking at her article. People should remember Mallory because she had done an excellent job of helping the African children. She can keep helping the African children even in the future. If she still helps the African children when she grow up, I think she should make her own organization and do different kind of things with the children. I think it is very easy for Mallory to choose what she wants to do or be when she grows up.

It takes a lot of maturity to look around and realise you don’t need anything else, don’t you think? You said you were surprised that an 11 year old girl could do this, but actually young people can achieve anything if the adults around them show them what is possible instead of always focusing on what is not possible.

Her spark was when she was making the chirtmas list in her room, she thought about the children in Africa that weren’t getting anything for Christmas and that’s when she noticed that she didn’t want anything for herself.
It was powerful for her because she met the kids and seen how their lives were and she saw how loving the kids were.
My connection is that when Thailand was in the flood and when people were suffering 6SS set up a small exhibition about the problems now and the solutions to fix it, my group did crocodile farms and we made a model of how the crocodile farm should be and we sent and e-mail and hopefully the might do that.
I think her strategy was to get people to support and help her and she got Amazima Ministries and Project Have Hope to sponsor what she was doing and she got herself out there and made people notice her and she also created a blog to show others online.
She changed not only her future but the futures of those kids too, she sponsored them and gave the kids hope in their lives. She probably feels really proud of herself for helping to make a change. Doing this has also boosted her reputation because now she is known for doing this. This has extremely helped her future because now she can continue Project Yesu and open a whole new chapter in her life.
Like Mahatma Gandhi said: “Be the change you want to see in the world”.

I think her spark was that just like Zola and Mara said, from her Christmas wish list. She knew that African people needs help then her who can get mostly everything she wants. She said African people doesn’t get and doesn’t know what Christmas is and I can see that she believed in Christ very much so maybe that was another spark for her; to help and to show Christ’s love. Also I think it was a spark for her because she knows that they needed things for their life but just couldn’t get it. I think she was shocked by the fact some people can’t get what they need to have. It was such a powerful spark for her because she knew there is a way she can help them and she had hope. When you have hope and to really believe in it, you can always make it happen. I think I have a connection between her spark and mine because she wants to help the African kids while I wanted to help people who get bullied by gossips. I wanted to help them by telling them to stand up for themselves.
I agree with Mara because she did present this to the church. I can see this presentation is very powerful because if it wasn’t, the words would’ve not spread. Also people would’ve not gone into action. After she did the speech in the church, words spread and she spoke to people who are great which made her idea to spread more. Also after that, she called PHH (Project Have Hope), and AM (Amazima Ministries). Then, she was invited to WAYFM, The NBC station, etc. That all made her idea very important to lots of people. I think this is a good strategy for her because they are organizations that can be trusted and a website that everyone can see. These websites are very popular in lots of countries so lots of people will see it. Also if she is in TV, etc. She will inspire lots of people too. I can make a connection that showing people what we should do it and make it into action, then it will be very powerful. I think I should action it while I talk about it too. This strategy probably doesn’t work for me because what I am doing is pretty personal and I think I should get another strategy for it. But I think talking to people and trying to make them stop from gossiping will be very powerful.
She made a shift and we can prove it because she afforded 2,400$ and that means people actually care and they are donating money to help them. Also they will be very upset and feel bad about the African people and they will donate money to save them. I think this made her feel very proud of herself that she actually succeeded and that she is very proud that she can actually do something very important to her. I also think that she is glad that the world actually cares about it. Her reputation was boost up by everything she did such as talking in the Radio station, etc. She will be a successful person because she did this very seriously and she will become one of the people who take their work seriously. Also she will be the kind of person who actually cares about the world and do something about it.

I agree with Mara and Zola. Mallory was inspired when she sat down to write down her Christmas list and realized she had all she ever wanted and needed. So instead, she decided to focus on the children of Africa but what made her choose Uganda was that in August 2010, she met and saw some of those children from the orphanage performing. They were really friendly and that really touched Mallory so she decided to narrow it down to the children in Uganda. I also think a later spark was when she read the quote “Be the change you want to see in the world” by Mahatma Ghandi and I think that really inspired her to carry on and keep going.
A small connection I have is to the We Dream the Future project because these 2 projects are about kids wanting a change and both are telling us kids CAN make a difference, not just adults.
I think Mallory used a few different strategies like making cards for the children and what many people (Zola, Melis, Pat, Daniel and others) say, contact big organizations she knows can help her. I think these strategies work really well like the contacting of the organizations because she knows big organizations can help her start projects, fund her some money and etc.
Mallory may have inspired some people around the world to help their community and donate. She sure did change the lives of some kids living in Uganda. Now, they have education, 3 meals per day, and more! I think this made her feel very happy and proud with herself that she helped some kids in Africa and now they have a better life. I also think this project boosted her reputation in her school, neighborhood and around the world. This achievement may help her in the future as an adult because maybe, she could set up a proper organization and it may be also easier for her to get the job she wants since her employer may know about the good things she’s done though out her life.

Yes, it is so important for kids to know they can make change. Don’t just wait for adults to do it, they might not be smart enough!
Mallory’s spark is to “Be the change she want to see in the world”, she wants to make a difference, she wants to help the people in Africa. She decided to send Christmas cards to the children in Uganda. This was such a powerful spark for her because the people in Africa weren’t going to receive Christmas presents, and there is a lot of things they absolutely needed. The connection is that my momi volunteers in a Disabled Childrens home, and it’s called Camillian Home. My family sometimes goes there and feeds the little children and we mostly participate in events happening there w/ the children. Sometimes we give the children something we don’t need like a toy. It’s like what Mallory is doing, she is doing stuff to help the people in Africa, she is giving them something (i.e. a Christmas card).
Mallory every week she sets up a booth at her church to tell me about her project, that is a good strategy to use because there is probably many people at her church, so many people can know about her project and donate money. Maybe that’s how she raised $2,400. Also she contacted Amazima Ministries and Project Have Hope, she told them what she wanted to do and how was the best way to take care of them. That is also a good strategy because Amazima Ministries and Project Have Hope should now if she wants to do this thing. A connection is in exhibition last year nearly everybody made a stand and explained what they where doing. Like my sisters group did that and explained what they were doing. They also ask people to buy shirts, so that the money can go to a donation I think. That was successful. I think that strategy would work for me because it’s a good way to present what your doing and it’s good to demonstrate thing if your like that. Also contacting a foundation is good because if your doing cats lets say, you can contact SCAD or some other one.

She changed peoples thought, so that’s why they are donating. She also changed peoples thinking in a way that they help her raise money to donate to Amazima Ministries and Project Have Hope. I think this made Mallory feel grateful for herself because this is a big job and she is successing in it. She might also feel good because this might be for one in a life time thing (i hope it’s not because she’s really making a change). Her reputation is from middle to the top because she has done something that people have noticed about and she also made good money out of it to help about 8 children In Uganda. These achievements might take her to the future to have money to help maybe almost all the kids or half the kids. It also might make her a little famous for doing all this. I really hope she doesn’t stop.

Her spark was to change Africa and give them hope. It was a powerful spark to her because she wanted a better world and Africa is a poor country and she is going to start by making cards for the children. My connection to her spark is to make people think about science more and to let people have fun when they are bored.
Her energy is to make cards for them and giving them hope ( as I said before) and she want them to have three meals a day,let them be in school for at least one year and other things. The connection to it is when the girl (Samantha I think ?) talk about changing the world and how people and children is dieing and suffering from not eating too much food and how rich people are really really over weight.
the shift and think she made me is that Africa is really poor and don’t have enough money to pay for it and she is going to donate some money there.I think it makes her feel really happy to make her achieve but now she is going to work a little harder because it is a really BIG job. I agree with some people who said the Christmas list was the spark. She was thinking. She wouldn’t have done this project if she didn’t think. She cared. Mallory thought about the world. She is surely not a selfish person. Mallory looked around the room and thought about the world. That was her spark. A spark doesn’t come in your head if you don’t think. Thinking is the most important thing to start something. It was a powerful spark for her because she thought of that idea by herself and she really wanted to change Africa. On my Birthday, I once thought of the African children who get nothing in their birthdays. I felt a bit sad for them. But I didn’t really take action. Also my spark might be about littering so it’ll be related to dumping trash in Africa. African children can suffer from the rubbish smell, etc.
She went to the church and set up a booth for donating money. I think it was powerful because many people go to church and people will donate money if they see the booth. She also contacted some organizations to help her. Mallory made a video too. I think she is a person like Jamie Oliver who tries many different things. In some way, Mallory can be really creative. I think those strategies were powerful because she chose a place that many people come. I can make a connection with my creativity project. Many people come to school and they can see my Animals Feel poster. I attracted attention with powerful pictures. Maybe the video thing might work for me because if I make my video powerful for my exhibition, I might put strong messages into people’s head that remains for a long time.
Mallory made people donate money to poor people in Africa. She used powerful words so people listened to her. When I watched the video and read the article, I thought, ‘Wow, she is such an amazing person who tries things.’ She really has put EFFORT in her work because without effort, what would she have done?? Effort made her succeed. I think it made her proud, happy, thrilled, and more. It may have caused a lot of feelings inside her. This project made her famous. Also people thought kids can change the world too because of her. Mallory might start another Revolution. She is the person I think that can change the world. She really has mastered the PYP learner. She’s a great thinker, principled, caring, etc. People should be inspired by her and make a difference. You can change the world.

Mallory’s spark was (as a few others said) she has it all just like us…..tell me something missing in your life that is essential to health and well-being? What they need is all the essential things like shelter, food, water and warmth. She knows she has all of that and more whilst others have nothing in comparason! It was so powerful for her because she first of all connected with the children and once you experience them you feel there pain and hardship from not knowing that they will food for the next day and are they safe as well as staying healthy. I have a big connection with Africa particually Tanzania, that is because I have lived there. My parents have always told me about the joys and sadness about Africans: live today don’t worry about tomorrow which is totally the opposite of us waiting for the next thing and waiting for the one after that almost like wishing your life away. I always have had something in side me nagging me saying “help Africa! Help others who don’t have what I have!” and once I grow up, and maybe now I will put a huge effort in a project connected to this to help Africa!
The strategies Mallory used was she contacted big organisations and church to help organise the donation. She decided what was marketable for what she could sell to raise money. She set up a donation and information stool to inform people at church about her plan. She contacted a printing company to help get her cards produced. She researched about how much money is needed for 2 children to get educated, fed, etc and then set a target amoun of money than kept adding on until now her target for 2012 is $2,400 and will probably make people help out because of how ambitious she was! I think these are amazing strategies for a 11 year old because there is no way I would ever think of that no matter how long I would try and certainly not do it! I tried going through big companies like ThaiVisa to help me raise awareness so people would help me out change the environment in which they have to work……but the ThaiVisa would not help me out!I think if I thought of these strategies then I defianately would have raised more awareness about the flood and how it affected the street vendors!
She changed the thinking of people needing more things by showing how much others have. This made people feel more selfish and not like a person who still hasn’t spent enough money! People in Africa have the richest hearts of all, they have no money, no food and no shelter but the still always find something to do and are always so loving! She shifted some kids in Africa’s lives they now get education, food, medical assistance, etc, so that has turned there lives around just like Jerry in pay it forward: “once you go to the bottom you will take any chance you get to get back, even from a kid.” Except this is kids who actually enjoyed there lives and probably even more now!
Because of what Mallory has done her reputation has shot right to the top, not only in her family, not only in her school, not only in her community, not only in her country but the whole world! Now when someone thinks about her they will think that she is a great person who actually helps, yes we all have a dream to stop world hunger but she is actually on the way there when we are still miles away from getting there! I think in the future people will look at her achievements, see that she made an effort and helped some people in Africa and straight away make up their mind that she is hired! I think she will be presedent because of her EFFORT she always tries it even if it seems impossible and it may work…..it worked for her!

I love what you have written about Africa. As you know, Tanzania has a very special place in my heart too. It is a beautiful place, but sometimes also a very tragic place. I like what you said about how different the thinking is there in comparison to ours.
You said that Thaivisa didn’t really help you. However, I think if your ideas about street vendors were a bit more clear perhaps they might have done. So, don’t lose heart!

I think Mallory’s spark was the Christmas night because that was when she got the idea. Of doing the Yesu project. Also I think Mallory really cred about the world because that’s why she will make a wish like that on Christmas day. Because most kids wish that they had a specific toy or a object or something for themselves. But Mallory wish was very unique because she wished for something that could changed the world. I think we should also support Mallory.
I think Mallory’s energy was in the church because she set up a booth for donation and was spreading the word and letting other people know. Her strategies were very powerful because many people were spreading the word until she got on TV and got on the radio channel. Also her energy was when she made 650 cards because she really spended time and EFFORT making the cards. o I thin
I think her Shift was she made people feel sad about how the Africa people are being treated. And now many people started to care more about Africa because of this project and the Kony project.When I watched the video I was very touched by how she cared about the Yesu project ,And now I know that she really cares about the people and children who are living in Uganda right now. Mallory’s spark was to change the world and the way people think about their own live’s instead of other’s live’s. Mallory was inspired by her eye’s because all she did was look around the room to see if she needed anything but she realized that other’s needed more than she needed and she actually got feeling in her heart. Has anyone seen an 11 year old child writing a Christmas list but realized that other’s needed more than she needed in life and decide’s to give them instead of taking. Her spark was shocking me that someone my age is doing something which I feel I can’t do in any time of my life. I mean can you believe it and 11 year old girl has managed such an big responsibility it is just shocking and amazing.
Mallory first chose a simple strategy and then went on telling the world with a bigger strategy which was a better way to tell people about what she was doing to change the world to a better place. I really like the way Mallory did not give up but kept on trying hard to make her spark successful and involved the whole world to be in it and feel what she feels from the bottom of her heart about these poor lovely young kids. I also like the way she got along with the kids to know what they want to do and be when they grow up so she has an idea of what to do in the future.
She changed a lot of people’s thinking about the world and she included them which means it added to their thinking more than it did before so it increased their thinking more wider. It made me also think wider and more about who she is and what she want’s to do to change the world. I think she is trying to make this world an better place but she is trying it with one country first which is Africa ( Uganda) then she will try to become a person who will change the world.

I think that Mallory’s spark was maybe sitting down to write her Christmas list, but before that the choir from Uganda came to perform, and that was the tiny spark and then when it was Christmas the spark started becoming a little fire in danger of being blown off very quickly, but she kept the fire going. It was a powerful spark because when she remembered the children from Uganda, she knew that it would be better to help those that still need things, and then think about what you want. I have a connection to her spark because mine is also about helping people who need the help, and not showing people something that they would want to do. I am also focusing on specific people in a specific country, in a specific situation.
Mallory, first researched and asked other organizations for tips, on what to do, and then took action. She set up a booth at church, using a specific audience, knowing that the people who go to church care, not only for themselves but usually also pray for others. The people that saw her and appreciated her work spread the word, and she exceeded her expectations, because she used a really good strategy. I really like her strategies, and the way she thinks, because she thinks in a unique way, not taking the easy and “I am a spoiled selfish child who is really lazy” way but thinking “I don’t want to become spoiled, I want make a change” hard way when she had the chance to choose. I only know of adults, who kind of helped people in Africa, like Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, who adopted those in need and give away a lot of money to charity, and raising awareness, because they both are famous around the world. Mallory had to work her way up to fame, just to raise awareness for what she believes in. Because I have a similar goal, I think these strategies could also work for me, because I want to raise the same awareness, that is similar to hers.
Mallory shifted peoples thinking, by first of all showing them that children can also change the world, maybe even more than adults because of their imagination, and knowing, sometimes better strategies than adults, making something new, not just supporting others with their own money, but getting up and modeling it to other people, but of course if everyone had their own”save…” every person would not get supported that much because it is nothing new. The feeling of independent success is always a good feeling for me, and probably for everyone else in the world, it probably is too, so she must have been feeling like she was someone people looked up to, and probably that feeling is a really good feeling, but she always has be careful that she doesn’t mess up, or stop her project, which she most likely won’t seeing how she started her project. Her reputation has gone up a lot because she has been putting a lot of her effort into her project, which is now being seen and noticed worldwide. The choices Mallory made will give her, a very good future, because when she tries to get a job, people will know who Mallory is and know that she puts a lot of into her passion, guaranteeing that she knows how to success in every way. She will probably keep fighting for the rest of her life, so people will warship her, and what she is fighting for.

I think Malloy was doing what exactly Gandhi’s quote meant. Normally I start with “Hi everyone!” but now I started with a different thing. At first Mallory’s spark was really simple. She just wanted the African kids to get Christmas presents on Christmas so she started to act. She planned that she would make some cards just for the kids in Uganda. She also planned that she will sponsor two kids (One from Amazima and one from Project Have Hope) with 600 dollars (When you sponsor a child the sponsorship will pay their money for medications and school fees. But it turned out that she got more money than she expected so she sponsored more people from the Amazima group and the Project Have Hope group. Just like most people are saying I think the spark for Mallory was when she looked around her room she couldn’t find anything to ask for a Christmas present but the African kids had a lot of things to ask for a Christmas present. I think she got that spark from the experience she had in the past. I think that the experience was when the Ugandan Orphan Children’s Choir came to her church to perform something. She mentioned that they were so loving. I think that’s when the light bulb started to flicker a bit. She really got inspired by this experience in her life and she would remember it as a big and important puzzle piece of her life. I think that’s where she got her spark / motivation / idea / ignite / push etc. and that’s why it’s a really important spark for her. One of my connections is that when I was riding on the bus to go to the school I noticed a lot of beggars begging for money in the street. I also noticed an the same time was that this was Bangkok (Thailand’s largest city). Then when I thought of the people who live in the poor places I felt really frustrated about me and about life. So I wanted to make a change. I didn’t make something to help them, but I donated money to the donations. Whenever I see a donation box I would ask my mom if I could put a little bit of money in the donation boxes at the super market. This is connected because me and Malloy had the same thing that she was inspired in and the same way of getting inspired.
I think she is using confidence as one of her strategies in earning and getting peoples support. She has confidence and she is trying to spread it out to the audience. I found out when I read the last part that she wrote in her timeline about Project Yesu. She said that “I want Project Yesu to continue to spread and grow, and to do that I need people like you, who are reading this post to spread the word and to help me. My goal for 2012 is to raise $4,500 – who knows maybe I’ll double that this year or even triple”. I could tell she was confident because she didn’t know where the future will bring her to, but she says that she thinks that the future will bring her to a bright future. She is also being optimism person because she has no clue what’s going to happen and she is still saying maybe I might double or triple the goal of how much money I need for 2012. She used a bit of shock tactics at the start of her story. She said that “See in August of 2010 the Ugandan Orphan Children’s Choir came to my church to perform, and I got to meet the children, and they were amazing. I think she was trying to say that she met these amazing kids with amazing talents and skills but they don’t have their human needs. When I read that part I really thought it was a powerful shock tactic and it really shifted my thinking about the people from Uganda. I thought they want like to be close to us because we do bad stuff to them but they really respect other people. I think Malloy used the strategies really powerfully. She was using a lot of powerful words in the strategies she used that shifted my thinking. She used the strategies really well because if you used shock tactics with in a really bad part or with really bad words people won’t be shocked and people won’t really care about the shock tactic. But she used it in a really good way so the audience would be shocked by what’s happening (unless he or she is really boring so they don’t care about anything). For the being optimistic and being confident is also a good strategy to get a more audience. If you keep on being a pessimist person all the time you will probably never be able to experience success. But if you balance them together then you will experience success. I think that’s what Malloy did. Most of the time she was optimistic but sometimes she was a pessimist. I will try to be a person who sometimes thinks optimistically and sometimes thinks pessimistically so I could achieve success. Like I said before if you are too optimistic you won’t be able to achieve anything because you keep saying I can do it I can do it and when the exhibition comes you didn’t do anything. But if you think too pessimistically you will keep saying I can’t do this this is too hard for me I won’t be able earn success. You will probably keep on saying that until all your energy is gone and you don’t really care about the exhibition anymore.
Malloy was able to provide 11 people equal education, food, medication etc. like us. She also was able to help these children from poverty. She gave them a chance to bubble up to the surface. It’s like she is the god and they are the people. She caused people from other countries to know that kids CAN make a change and they CAN make a difference in the world right now. She also made an effect on me. She made my thinking changed about the African people. She made me learned what real empathy is. I think this made her feel that she was successful and this made her feel that she was glad she started this whole ‘Project Yesu’.I think she also feels like she told the adults that children CAN make a change and WILL be able to do it if they put effort into it. She might be famous because she was the founder of the ‘Project Yesu’ or she might be a person who goes to Uganda to help the poor children who don’t have their human needs. She could make several projects to help the poor people in Africa who always are poor and probably never rise up to the surface unless a huge chance of becoming really famous comes to them. But I am most likely sure that she will go to countries in Africa and help take care of them.

I think the Christmas list and looking around her room was Mallory’s spark for Project Yesu. Her actions could be influenced by what she experienced. For example, if she went to a mega toys’r’us or a shop like that the day before she might have written a different list. When she looked around, she saw she all her most important needs for life were fulfilled. I think she has most, if not all, the levels on Maslow’s hierarchy of needs Also, I think she knows the difference between need and want. She was also inspired by Mahatma Gandhi, who said: ” Be the change you want to see in the world.” It means taking action to cause the change you want to see.
She wanted to do something to help the world, and the reason she chose Uganda was because in August 2010, the Ugandan Orphan Children’s Choir came to her local church to perform, and because she interacted with them she got to know how they lived and got inspired by them. Many sparks of different revolutions were provoked by emotions, which were caused when the orphan choir visited. For example, Jamie Oliver’s spark for his American Food Revolution was when he saw the report. It probably made him angry and pitiful. That was what caused the Food Revolution. Emotions provoked by one sheet of paper.
Now she had a spark. However, a spark cannot cause a shift without action, or energy. She decided to take action by sending them Christmas cards. She spread the word and got help to start a blog. However, I don’t think she should have made the cards religious. I bet the Africans have their own indigenous beliefs. I hope she doesn’t make it like- ‘If you don’t convert, you will not receive any help.’
She contacted some organizations to sponsor some Ugandan Children. Now, she has sponsored 7 children, who now have most of the needs on Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, or at least the most important ones, such as water, food, and shelter. That is the shift she has caused. She will continue to raise money and sponsor kids for project Yesu.
One thing-I think she is wrong on one part: “Everyone thinks kids are selfish or that we’re just kids and we can’t do anything like this.” That is wrong. The kids in Uganda are kids. They are not selfish. Think about Jacob from the Joseph Kony 2012 video. It depends on their upbringing and their guardian/parent. When you are growing up, your parents have to maintain some control over you, to keep you balanced. Just the right amount of daydreaming and acting wild. Some parents are slack and spoil their kids, letting them act wild without concern for EQ and IQ. They do not stop to think of think of the difference of their way of life and some less fortunate kids’s way of life. That brings us full circle. Mallory did the opposite of what a spoiled kid would do, and took action independently while thinking of the kids in Uganda.

Gosh I don’t know where to start, I think it is really great what you all are doing, I like what your teacher is doing getting you all to think about problems around you, things you can fix, things you can change. I wish my teachers here were like Mr. Sam, sometimes people in my school don’t understand why I am doing what I do.
When I first started Project Yesu, when I wrote that email to my parents, I was scared, I was afraid that it would not succeed. I NEVER thought it would get as big as it has, I NEVER thought it would make it all the way to places like Thailand. But even though I was scared, I kept thinking about the children in Uganda, and their faces, that is what kept me going. The first time I stood up in front of people to talk about PY, I thought I was going to throw up, I was SO nervous. I knew that if I didn’t talk to people about it, then no one would know about it and no one would help. So spreading the word, teaching people about the children of Uganda was going to make PY succeed.
It is important to talk to people who are involved in what you are wanting to change, what I mean is, when I first thought about what I wanted to do I wanted to send clothes, toys, bibles things like that. But after I talked to Amazima and Project Have Hope, they told me what the children really needed most, which was money to sponsor them to provide education, medical care and food. So that is when I set my goals to raise money.
What keeps me going, is that I know now that I have started helping there, I can’t stop. That wouldn’t be right, I need to keep finding a way to help them, to grow PY and to keep helping the children there. I want to help more then just the 7 I help now.
I am very proud of what I do, and what I have accomplished. But I don’t see myself as extraordinary, and sometimes I don’t get it when people say things to me that I am. I have friend, who I met a few months ago, that started a ministry called Feeding The Orphans, and she helps in Ghana. Her name is Sidney and she is 12, I think she’s extraordinary.
What I like best is that what I am doing is impacting other people around me, my friends, my family, my teachers, and people I don’t even know. I didn’t think about that when I first started PY, I just knew I wanted to help the children of Uganda I didn’t think of the side effects of what I was doing. Like I have a friend named Kerri, she was selfish and materialistic, which a lot of kids are, I don’t mean it in a really bad way, but she cared more about stuff, then people sometimes. After learning about Uganda, and seeing what I am doing, now she wants to do something, she wants to make a change, and that part is really cool. Seeing it spread, seeing people change.
My mom and I will be traveling to Uganda in October, I am so excited for that. I will get to see the programs from Amazima and Project Have Hope, I will be able to visit Ekisa, and I will be able to meet my sponsored children and hear from them how what I am doing is helping them. I can’t wait for that!
Next month, I am hosting an Orphan luncheon where I will raise money for PY and raise awareness for the needs of orphans in Uganda and around the world. Hopefully people will see the need and adopt, or at the least help the children who don’t have a mom and dad, who need help.

First of all I want to say that you really changed people’s perspective especially the adults. Lots of adults think we can’t possibly do something bigger than them. But I think you changed the people’s thinking. Also I think that you are changing people to think more about the world. Actually, I want to share this project to Korea because lots of students there live in a bubble of their own. For example, when a boy/girl just came back from Thailand draws a black person, they think we are crazy. Then they bully them and do weird things at them. But actually, they don’t know anything about the world. Sometimes I feel very embarrassed about this. Also, I think you made our hope become better. Your energy and the spark inspired all of us. Thank-you.
Second of all, my mom was really inspired by you too. By looking at you she said ‘A butterfly can make a tornado’. You were the butterfly who made the tornado Mallory! It really made everyone really open their eyes to the world. We really had a good talk about you.
Lastly, I just wanted to say that Yesu means Jesus in Korean! How I was surprised about it. Also I am Christian too and this really means to a Christian people because not many people know about Jesus and its good they know. Even though they don’t believe in him, just sharing the words of Jesus is just great. Thank-you for doing all this and really getting us into it.

I’m also Christian (a Catholic to be specific) like you and Vicky and I think it’s probably quite hard to bring up the topic of religion in our school among friends when some are Buddhist, some are Christian, some are Hindu and some say there is no God at all (we’d all end up in a huge debate on which is the ‘real’ God and if he really exists)!
My last thing is 1 question: Why did you call it Project Yesu? So far, I’ve come up with 2 conclusions:
1) You want the Ugandan kids to have faith in God
2) Because in August 2010, you were really touched by them when they came to your church
I don’t know the answer – can you tell me?
