Thai Sala in Bad Homburg

Where I am staying right now there is a well and this well cured King Chulalongkorn, Rama the V. King Chulalongkorn came to Germany-Bad Homburg from Thailand, which was still called Siam at that time, 1907. King Chulalongkorn was very sick, and no doctor could help him, so he came to Bad Homburg to try if the well worked, and it did. The well was named after him. He gave Bad Homburg a sala to put over the well. The well was built in Thailand and the little pieces of the sala were put into boxes and were shipped to Germany-Bad Homburg. Some pieces of the sala got broken during their journey so it took a little longer for the sala to be rebuilt. The opening of the sala was in 1914. The second sala was built for the 100th anniversary of his visitation. Every year we now celebrate the anniversary visitation. The festival is called ”Thai Festival”. Thai people from all around Germany come to visit this festival.

That is fantastic, Hannah! How did the well cure Rama V? Why is the place called Bad Homburg?
