Thai Sala in Bad Homburg

November 11, 2011 2 comments

Where I am staying right now there is a well and this well cured King Chulalongkorn, Rama the V. King Chulalongkorn came to Germany-Bad Homburg from Thailand, which was still called Siam at that time, 1907. King Chulalongkorn was very sick, and no doctor could help him, so he came to Bad Homburg to try if the well worked, and it did. The well was named after him. He gave Bad Homburg a sala to put over the well. The well was built in Thailand and the little pieces of the sala were put into boxes and were shipped to Germany-Bad Homburg. Some pieces of the sala got broken during their journey so it took a little longer for the sala to be rebuilt. The opening of the sala was in 1914. The second sala was built for the 100th anniversary of his visitation. Every year we now celebrate the anniversary visitation. The festival is called ”Thai Festival”. Thai people from all around Germany come to visit this festival.

Year 6 Camp – New Dates

November 11, 2011 Leave a comment

Dear Parents and Students,

As you will be well aware the flood crisis in Thailand has meant that we are no longer able to go on camp next week. Although the resort where the camp is held is not in any way flooded, transport to the camp would be difficult and unpredictable if we were to proceed next week.

As stated in an earlier email you received from our principal Mr Brett, we have been looking at alternative dates for the camp. These dates are of course reliant on the resort and facilities being available, the weather, the flood situation and the need to fit with the other aspects of the academic program in Year 6.

I am pleased to announce that we have been able to find a new date for the camp. I wish to emphasize however, that at this stage, until the situation regarding flooding around Thailand is clarified or resolved, this date will remain tentative and subject to change or cancellation. Our new date for the camp will be:

Tuesday January 10 to Friday January 13

As you will notice, these dates are in the first week back to school after the winter break. We hope that by telling you all as early as possible that camp is likely to go ahead on these dates, that you will be able to ensure that your child is here in Thailand for the camp.

I will be sending you further updates as the school term progresses with more information about the camp.

On behalf of the Year 6 Team, I wish all of you the best at this difficult time throughout Thailand.

Kind regards,

Chris

Mr Chris Boreham

Year 6 Co-ordinator
