Whole Bangkok At Risk Of Flooding After Opening Of Key Sluice Gate – Thailand Forum

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/509546-whole-bangkok-at-risk-of-flooding-after-opening-of-key-sluice-gate/

Read this article slowly and carefully, taking notes of the most interesting and important information. You can also get an adult to sit and read it with you. Then make a comment to tell us what you think:

  • Did you know that this kind of thing is happening?
  • Why did the people get this gate opened?
  • Why do you think the government did not want the gate to be opened?
  • See if you can use the key words in the article, such as Klong Sam Wa, watergate, Sam Wa Canal, Saen Saeb Canal, to see if you can find any more information or images of the people taking action.

Then, perhaps you could put something together such as your own news report, a role-play pretending to be people with different perspectives, a slideshow of powerful images, a poster with a powerful quote.

Hi Ed, we’re all doing fine. We could easily be in school, the reason we are not is because nobody can really say what will happen with the flood, or where the water will go next!

Hi Jessie – thanks for saying such great things about our class blog!

Is there anything on the news channels in Arizona about what is happening here in Thailand with the flooding?

    1. Did you know that this kind of thing is happening?

Yes, I watched this kind of news in Tokyo and also my mom told me.

    2. Why did the people get this gate opened?

They wanted to send the excess flood water to other area.

    3. Why do you think the government did not want the gate to be opened?

The government did not want the gate to be opened because they did not want flood to affect in centre.

I found the key words “Water Gate” “open 70cm or 1 m”

Why do you think the government wanted to protect the centre of Bangkok?

      • November 6, 2011 at 5:42 pm

I think the government wanted to protect large number of pepople in the centre of Bangkok and also save a lot of offices, rich people and foreign people.

I knew this happening because i read it on the internet.
They opened the gate because they wanted to send the water to other places
The government did not want the gate opened because they did not want Bangkok’s center to be flooded. The king lives in the center of Bangkok(mom told me).
