    1. I was out of Bangkok and could not come the last spot check but by looking and Michaels folder and his presentation I can see that he has gathered quite a bit of new information.
    2. Yes, but I think he needs to get the perspectives of additional people such as students from other schools and from NIST teachers and administrators. I also think he needs to research the subject a bit more on the internet to get a better idea of how teasing or bullying can be best addresed.
    3. I was not at the last spotcheck, but I know that he has been doing alot of work and gathering alot of information on this topic.

I agree with you, Mark, Michael really needs to get serious with his research… to find and share the stories of people who have been through these experiences.

The student has developed a 10-question survey on happiness for children 9-12 and has begun to ask different students for their answers at NIST. He will be doing the same at a Thai school scheduled for the week after next. And he will be going to a slum area of Bangkok to ask the same set of questions. He will show results of the survery in pie chart graphs he has set up. He will know more and more about different perspectives as the exhibition goes on. Since the last spot check he has gone from the idea into the action on how to collect the data and record it.

Paul will need to make clear plans about how to use his time when he is not interviewing people. He will need to develop his ability to manage his time in order to become more of an expert on his issue!

Nine and I talked about his topic, sharks, and how he got inspired by the “Shark Guardian” who recently came to talk at NIST.
Nine changed his topic to sharks since last week, and he gathered a lot of facts about sharks during this week! We talked about different angles on the shark topic that Nine could include, for example shark fin soup, sharks in Thailand (Koh Tao) or how dangerous sharks really are and how dangerous people think they are. These are different angles nine can pursue next week.
Nine is aware that he chose a very wide topic and can think about how he can make it relate to his audience at the ehibition.

The last point is very important. How can Nine make sure he connects Sharks with the NIST community?

May has more information on other people’s perspective about being themselves. She has sent out a survey to the people in year 6 and interviewed her class. From the interviews and surveys, May was able to understand what other people think about the issue. May has moved quite a long way from her last spot check. She will continue her work by gathering more ideas from the people outside her year group.

The student has more information. Am doesn’t only look at the issue but she looks at both angles-The core issue and the way she responds to the people who pushes her confidence down. She also has new information from the results of the survey monkey she sent to year 6, 7 and 8. Now Am has a new graph of people related and it is better. The graph is now concentrating on the Year 6 community because it is currently closest to her school life.

Am has new perspectives from the survey and new thoughts from others. Different people have many thoughts. Now since she is looking at this issue in 2 angles and now she is looking at the core issue and it’s still negative to her, but she is now looking at the negatives and positives of the responses; not only thinking badly about the issue.

Am has come a long way because she has communicated with more people and a lot more surveys. Currently 60 people have done her survey but maybe next week she will progress and get tons more. She has not only looked at 6ss’s perspectives like last week. Now she has many perspectives from year 6 7 and 8. She is also planning to interview the person who pushes her confidence. However, she has to find a person to interview the pusher to receive the truth. Before, Am has never thought about future plans but now she has a sheet that she writes down plans for the future.
This week Am has been trying to look at the best way of her response to the people who push her confidence down. She has communicated with the year 4-6 counselor and has new ideas and thoughts about the way she can handle the issue.

Saeyeon has thought more the shortage of water, and has learned how to use the video camera and editor. It’s very important how to show his thought well, especially through video or audio clips.
Saeyeon interviewed many friends and teachers. Sometimes they have different thoughts with Saeyeon about the problem of world water problem. But all of them love the earth and hope to conserve the environment.
More and more knowledge has Saeyeon got on the problem of water shortage, and his perspective has become more concret.

I think that Jin has really good information about bullying and teasing and he know what is the good thing about teasing and bullying and what is the bad thing.

He really understands about other people’s perspectives about this issue.

I think he has a really good harmony with the last spot check.

What new information does the student have?
Last time I didn’t come so I got new information
Does the student know and understand different peoples perspectives about the issue?
Yes because have different ideas from different people from NIST I know about negative and positive ideas and give ideas.
Has the student come a long way since the last spot-check?
Last spot-check I didn’t come so I think that she has come a long way about 50% maybe. Only I don’t know what she should present on so that it is good.(presentation, poster, movies etc.)
    Extra comment:
It is good because this exhibition makes the students have imagination and ideas and real ideas. Also they think more deep for their life in the future and what should they do in the future (in a good way) It helps develop their life into a better person and help change their negative life. 🙂

    March 11, 2011 at 8:57 am

Sam and Paula did many student interviews during the week and got information from an interiew with Khun Param, the campus manager. That gave them a pretty good understanding of other peoples perspectives on their exhibition topic “nature”.They want to continue interviewing people at school, but we also talked about the importance of their own ideas and viewpoints. Of course they need input from the school community, but that should not keep them from developing their own ideas about making NIST a greener, more natural space.
We also talked about a few other angles they might want to add, like thinking about a definition of “nature” versus “greenery/green space”.
