Boys read the “Boy Stuff” section and Girls read the “Girl Stuff” section! You can click “listen” to hear someone read the words if the reading gets tough. Click on different things and basically explore the whole section. Get one of your parents or an older brother/sister to sit with you if you like. Make a comment and share:

  • Something you already know
  • Something new that you learned
  • Something that surprised you
  • Something you think all girls/boys should definitely know
  • Something you don’t think is important

That when puberty starts happening you get hair in new places like your face and armpits. Also you start getting muscles and your voice will change. I also new that puberty starts on it’s own schedule. I also new these tips for getting muscles:
Have a qualified coach or trainer supervise you. It’s smart to have somebody show you the proper way to lift weights. This will help you gain strength and prevent injury.
Rest. Let your body have a break at least every other day.

That girls start puberty earlier than boys. I didn’t know about these to tips for getting muscles:
•Use lighter weights. Your coach or trainer can recommend the right amount. Lifting heavy weights can cause injuries and then you’ll have to wait until you recover before you can work out again.
•Do repetitions. It’s better to lift a smaller amount of weight a bunch of times than to try to lift a heavy weight once or twice. Also that boys have wet dreams.

What suprised me was that there were things like wet dreams because I thought it just happened because you needed to go to the toilet because you didn’t go to the toilet before you fell asleep.

That puberty happens to everyone and that you don’t need to fear it because this change can be very important in the future of your lives.

What I don’t think is to important is that you always think about a girls or never think about a girl (a part in the text) because it may change the way you think but basically at that moment the change that happens by puberty is more important at that moment. 🙂

      HI Luca,

The most important thing you have written about, in my opinion, is that puberty starts “on its own schedule”. I went through puberty quite late… maybe 13 years old, to be honest, and I always wondered why it was not happening to me yet! I wish I had been told that it has its own schedule.

      Mr. Sam

        May 17, 2010 at 2:46 pm

unlucky you then. Did you think “why is it happening so late for me, is their something wrong with me?”

        • Mr. Sam
          May 17, 2010 at 8:23 pm

Yes, I did. I don’t think it’s luck, it’s just another way that we’re all different. As I always say, if we were all exactly the same the world would be a very boring place!

    May 17, 2010 at 8:34 am

I knew pretty much everything. Nothing really suprised me. I think that something boys and girls should definitely know is that everybody will go through this change and if they are haveing trouble they should talk to an adult or one of your siblings that have already gone through this. I think that something isn’t really important is child abuse. Anither thing that I think is not important is running away and drugs and smoking. I think that’s all I have to say.

  3. Cael
    May 17, 2010 at 8:37 am

I knew that us boys will be getting hair almost everywhere I was told before.
I didn’t know that our voices will be making funny noises.
I was suprised when I found out when girls start earlier because it didn’t really say why.
That there going to be going through and what they need to do.
The getting mussels wasnt that important after Mr.Sam told us before

    • Mr. Sam
      May 17, 2010 at 8:59 am

You know “mussels” are a kind of shell fish, “muscles” are the things in your body. That is why spelling is so important, Cael!

How many mussels are you getting?

  4. May 17, 2010 at 8:38 am

Well Here are the facts I learned:

    1. Having an erection is normal
    2. I will grow taller when I grow older
    3. Having wet dreams is normal when you grow older.
    4. Hair will start growing on my body
    5. I will start liking girls more and that is natural

Um… when I saw this website I looked at most of them but I wasn’t suprized at all. I knew almost every thing and its just that I learned some tiny tiny litle imformation. I think most of the girls should know the things that will happen to them. There was more things that I knew but didn’t want to here it again. I think every thing even little imformation is important so that we can know our selvs more.

    • Mr. Sam

I think I knew about a lot of it(but not all of it). I didn’t really surprised, because I knew about a lot. I learned a little information. I think all grils need tp know things that happen all grils.

  8. Rosna
    May 17, 2010 at 8:57 am

From that website I have learnt:
That is is natural for girls to have puberty before boys and not to be scared of the changes of your appearance inside and out.
When we have puberty thats when we start growing taller than usual in height and should be eating right foods to keep fit while puberty happens.
This website has mainly gotten me more prepared and let me know more facts about how to be ready and what happens to not be afraid. I have a lot more questions than before and want to figure out the answers to them during this unit. The rest of the things that were mentioned I already knew but got more detailed information on it.

    • Mr. Sam
      May 17, 2010 at 9:05 am

      Hi Rosna,

The part about eating the right food is very interesting. Does it suggest some food that girls should be eating at this time in their lives? Can you find any other websites that suggest good food for girls who are going through puberty?

      Mr. Sam

      • Rosna
        May 17, 2010 at 1:11 pm

Yes, It actually does suggest a few foods that are good at that time of their lives. Right now I am going to search for websites that suggest the food for girls going through puberty.

      • Rosna
        May 17, 2010 at 1:21 pm

For girl’s, their bodies needs iron to stay strong, have energy, and to make new blood cells. So they say to eat as many iron-rich foods as you can. Examples of high-iron foods are meats and fish, raisins, dark green vegetables, and beans.

        • Mr. Sam
          May 17, 2010 at 8:27 pm

Fabulous work, Rosna. Wouldn’t it be cool to design some recipes for girls in Year 6 and Year 7 who need to eat well to help their bodies cope with change?

          • Rosna
            May 18, 2010 at 10:46 am

That would be a great idea but then I need a bit more information to get to the right path and try making that much mistakes.

I already knew that girls get their periods and breats.I learned that girls who have periods could get cramps because they get there periods at a young age, someother ways girls could get cramps are by smoking, relatibes who have or had period cramps and girls who have longer periods or heavier blood flow.I also didn’t know that girls could get their periods 2 1/2 years after they get their breast. Something that surprised me is girls at the age of 8 could get breast. Something I think boys and girls should know about is sexualy transmitted dieseases. Something that I don’t think it is too imporatnt to learn about how people make babies.

    • Mr. Sam
      May 17, 2010 at 9:09 am

      Hi Samantha,

The information about cramps is very important because if girls don’t know that the cramps are quite normal, maybe they would get scared.

      Mr. Sam

    From this website I learnt:
Usually girls start puberty before boys but we shouldn’t be scared about what is happening to your body because it is something that every girl has to go through.
This website made me more prepared for what is going to happen to me so that when it does start happening I don’t freak out and so that I know what to do.

    • Mr. Sam
      May 17, 2010 at 9:10 am

Yes, I agree… without the knowledge it is possible that girls (and boys) would freak out when these things start to happen to them.

  11. Mick
    May 17, 2010 at 9:15 am

I learned quite a lot of things like puberty starting on its own time and most boys starting puberty later than girls. I also learned quite a lot on the voice section about our voice and how it changes. I also learned a little bit about hormones and hormones that help you change in puberty.

    • Mr. Sam
      May 17, 2010 at 9:16 am

Can you tell us any of the actual scientific reasons about why and how our voices change?

  12. SUJINNA :D
    May 17, 2010 at 9:19 am

From the website, I haven’t actually learnt anything because my mum mostly talked me through all of this so there i didn’t actually learn anything just very very little things. I wasn’t really surprised with anything but as rosna said when we go through puberty, we start growing taller than usual. I think it is important for us to know what is going to happen to us so that we can be prepared.

    • Mr. Sam
      May 17, 2010 at 9:28 am

I already knew about sweat and erections and that some boys are attracted to girls and some aren’t. I also know about the body hair but not about the hormones and stuff. The bit about muscles I didn’t really know about, so I learned about that. I wasn’t suprised by anything really because I have an older brother and sister who have already done puberty, so I have seen what happens. All boys and girls should know about sweat and how it makes you smell because smelly people are not nice to stand next to. I think some things are more important than others but nothing is unimportant.

    • Mr. Sam
      May 17, 2010 at 9:29 am

Yes, having older brothers and sisters really helps you to learn about all of this just by watching what happens to them!

  14. Ness
    May 17, 2010 at 9:26 am

I know that if our parents can handle with this, we can too. I also know alot more too. I learned that We have more than 10000 hairs on our head to take care of and
our hair also changes when we are in puberty like color change, oiliness, more washing needed, hair loss.Nice warm bath can help cramps and If your parents has cramps, it’s likely you will have it too. I was very worried if I had a period I would hurt my tummy, but now I’m not wooried because there are medicines to help too. I never knew periods can stop around when we are 45-50 years old, it’s very suprising too that it doesn’t stay with us forever. I think boys should know basic things about girls and their changes and girl should know about boy’s changes so we don’t giggle and laugh at eachother.

    • Mr. Sam
      May 17, 2010 at 11:43 am

Do you know why our hair changes so much? I’d be interested in finding out, are you?

What medicines can help with cramps? Is there any special food or drinks that can help too? Rosna has found some information about food.

  15. 17nikkis
    May 17, 2010 at 10:04 am

After reading and exploring different categories about girls stuff I learned a lot and I got a better understanding on how my body will grow or will happen in the future.

Something that I already know is that menstruation cycle starts apparently at the age of 12 but nowadays girls have it at the age of even 10, this is because of the hormonal changes that happen faster due to the intake of chicken and other meat products. Something to my knowledge is Puberty is the name for the time when your body begins to develop and change as you move from kid to adult for example: changes for girls developing breasts. During puberty, our body will grow faster than at any other time in your life, except for when you were a baby. It’s also important to remember that everybody goes through these changes. Tampons also absorb menstrual blood, but they work from inside the vagina. A tampon is also made of absorbent material, but it’s pressed tight into a small cylinder shape. The question all girls wonder is — how do you put them in? Some tampons have applicators, which are plastic or cardboard tubes that help put the tampon in place. Other tampons can be inserted using your fingers. Many girls start out using pads, but might want to use tampons when they do sports or go swimming. This is surprising and interesting to know.

    • Mr. Sam
      May 17, 2010 at 8:31 pm

You have shared some very interesting information about menstruation and how to deal with it.

Boys… do you have any idea how lucky you are? Our lives are so much easier than girls’/womens’ lives because we don’t have to deal with menstruation.

  16. Nathan
    May 17, 2010 at 10:07 am

Something I already know waws that you start growing hair around your body. Something new I learned was that when you sweat you don’t smell its the bacteria on your body that smells. Something that surprised me was that it’s better lifting light weights than heavy ones. Something boys and girls should know is that I may start liking girls. Something I don’t think is important is growing muscles.

    • Mr. Sam
      May 17, 2010 at 8:34 pm

You made an interesting point Nathan. It is totally natural for boys and girls to start “liking eachother”. So, teasing people because they seem to like a member of the opposite sex is really silly and pointless.

Also, you guys must all remember that it is still totally normal to have friends of the opposite sex who are not “girlfriends” or “boyfriends”. Being friends is great, having lots of friends – boys and girls – is fantastic. Enjoy it. And don’t allow people who are silly about it to stop you.

      • Nathan
        May 18, 2010 at 8:42 am

Yea I know a few people in other classes that tease you when you play with someone or talk with someone of the opposite sex. I sometimes wonder what will happen when they grow older and is still shy to talk to people of the opposite sex. How will they ever achieve anything in life?

        • Mr. Sam
          May 18, 2010 at 9:36 am

You’re so right, Nathan. The more comfortable you are about talking and being friends with all different kinds of people, the more open-minded you are, the better your life will be.

          Great little conversation.

  17. Ping Ping
    May 17, 2010 at 10:10 am

Since when I was able to remember things, I have been taught by my parents about having to have a girlfriend at a very early stage of life. I have also been taught of how having a girlfriend could stop your dreams and career as a scientist, sportsman etc. Having fornication has a problem: you will have to take great amount of care to the young (if you do) and that will require having to stop school and stopping everything else you dreamt of.

    Some things I have learnt:

    1. Girls go into puberty at the age of 8-13 while boys go into puberty at the age of 9-14.

    2. Using lighter weights when exercising and doing repetitions.

    3. Testosterone makes hair sprout of your body when needed.

It’s all about common sense. School kids need to understand that their priority must always be to be successful at school and to work hard to leave school knowing that they did everything they could to make the most of all of those amazing learning opportunities. Sometimes, people have “fallen in love” and become so distracted by it that their school work suffers, and some never recover from that.

      • Ping Ping
        May 18, 2010 at 9:46 am

        Hello Mr. Sam,

These are the ordered answers that I have put up.

        1. Being tall is also dependant on the genetics you have for example, your mom and dad or your ancestors and relatives. Eating healthy also prevents germs and flues into the body.
        2. Girls go into puberty at the age of 8-13 while boys go into puberty at the age of 9-14. Having a crush could also mean liking a person you don’t even know!
        3. Hair grows around the cheeks, the chin, above the lip, on the chest and the pubic area. My body likes a temperature of 37 degrees Celsius. The testosterone makes my voice box or larynx grow.
        4. Girls and boys’ larynx grows but the one of the girl’s doesn’t grow as much as the boys.
        5. In the terms of unimportance, I think that everything about change is very important about change in the human body.

I already knew that when you go thorw pubetty your hair gets oiler then the normal times and you really wann change your hair style. and it’s not really good going swimming if you got Period you have to get tempon to do it.something that learned was
Some girls start puberty at age 8, and others may start as late as 13 or 14

    • Mr. Sam
      May 17, 2010 at 8:44 pm

It’s the same for boys, puberty can happen very young or much later. It is natural for us to develop at different rates.

Actually puberty can as late as 19.

Really? Where did you find that information?

  19. Ranvir
    May 17, 2010 at 11:56 am

I was really interested in what the Adam Apple is all about. Honestly, I didnt really know anything that was mentioned because I think it didnt strike me. What all should know is that puberty is a part of growing and for some to learn this unit is a mental challenge and we face different experiences as we grow up.

  20. Arne
    May 17, 2010 at 4:53 pm

I pretty much knew everything in General. But when I saw it on a website that tells you everything about puberty for boys, I felt a little embarrassed about that. When I showed my Father the website about boys, he felt quite normal, because he told me everything about Puberty before this unit came.

  21. Amy
    May 18, 2010 at 8:28 am

I already know about all the changes girls go through, but I didnt know that when you go through puberty you grow faster than anytime unless of course when we were babies. I didnt know that when you are about to go through puberty a part of you brain realeases hormones. I think puberty is a natural change you have to go through it to grow, you body changes and that means you will change too. I think that we should learn about the main possbilities in puberty because there is no point in us learning about something that could happen to us in like 10 years.

    • Amy
      May 18, 2010 at 8:58 am

I had a talk with my sister and she says that it would be interesting for me to research about what hormones are realeased and when, about you brain and mental changes.

  22. Rimjhim
    May 18, 2010 at 9:06 am

I already know about some of the changes we go through like girls go through puberty. I didn’t know what hormones were and now I know what they are. What really surprised me was that hormones are what make us feel happy, sad, energetic, etc. Something that boys and girls should know is that hormones are not always related to puberty. I think we should all learn how to be ready for these changes because we don’t know the future. So there is no point waiting for something to happen which won’t happen in maybe another 2 years or so.

  23. Rimjhim
    May 18, 2010 at 9:15 am

Rimjhim : I think we should all learn how to be ready for these changes because we don’t know the future. So there is no point waiting for something to happen which won’t happen in maybe another 2 years or so.

I meant that periods could come during anytime till the age of 16, so there is no point in bothering about it and just carry on with our lifestyle. But of course you need to be ready and know all about it.

  24. Rimjhim

Do you think some girls think that there is something wrong with their body because they aren’t going through changes like puberty? Is it because hey weren’t educated and don’t know that some changes happen later than others?

    • Rimjhim
      May 18, 2010 at 8:12 pm

      I meant they weren’t educated…
