Homework – Mathletics and Patterns

Part One

Mathletics - Inspiring Better Results

Spend 20-30 minutes on Mathletics. Work carefully and use pencil and paper to work things out if you need to. Don’t make random guess – you will never learn anything that way!

I will be checking how much progress you have made.

Part Tw0

Cool Pattern 1 Color 1 by David Matthew Parker.

Patterns: What is a pattern? Make a comment to tell us what you think. Please don’t type in a dictionary definition… anyone could do that and still have no idea what a pattern is!

Bring in examples of patterns that you can find. Look in newspapers, magazines, books. Take photos, do sketches, make your own!

I think that a pattern is something repeated a lot of times or at least twice

So basically a pattern is something that is done over and over again. It will form a kind of texture

I think a pattern is something that is repeated over and over again and it is some type of art because their are lots of nice shapes. I think that a tessellation is a type of pattern as well or a noise that it repeats it self.

I think patterns is something reapeated at least twice. It is just like drawing/writing the same thing over and over agian

I think a pattern is a design that is repeated. The design can be on wallpaper, fabric/cloth, clothes, frames, etc

I think that a pattern is a design that is repeated again or 2(or more) different designs being repeated.

I think a pattern is a type of decorative design that is repeated in a particular way. It is shown in different styles, It could be shown in paintings, chairs wallpapers etc. It is also a combination of shapes.

I think that pattern can be simple or complicated to look at. It’s a design that can be repeated many times. A pattern can contain different shapes and the colors are usually simple. I agree with Luca that tessellation is kind of a pattern. 🙂

I think a pattern is a certain type of design repeating itself in many ways. Patterns look a bit like tessellations but I think Patterns are more complex than others.

  15. May 10, 2010 at 6:34 pm

Well lots of my ideas have been said so here are the few I was thinking about:\

    1. Patterns stand out

    2. Patterns are complex

    3. Patterns and a way of expressing your self

A pattern is something that stands out and is repeated again.

    Tesselations too.

I think that almost everything is a pattern, Patterns dont only have to be visible they can be something repeated like suppose you do the exact same thing you did the first time. A pattern is a lot of different things, they are many sorts of patterns. I think patterns are:
    Tesselations
    Something being repeated
    Cloth like Sasha said
Its a design that can be anywhere
    Etc.

A pattern is something repeated over and over again. Patterns can be simple or complex. They can be found in many places.

  20. May 10, 2010 at 8:36 pm

I think a pattern is a shape or the tings and the designs and it repeats or the time and you can see it everywhere in this planet

A pattern is an artwork which can mean anything like your mood, future and many other ways that you want to tell the people who is seeing the pattern about. Patterns can be on furniture, paper, doors, window it is also used to decorate colors. In many religions, they use patterns to decorate their place or make a symbol. So, it is an art work that can be simple or not simple (like Mick said), it has creative designs that can sometimes catch people’s eyes. Patterns can be made out of symbols in many ways

A pettern is a way to show things that repeat over in an interesting way. Patterns are mostly found in nearly everything that has a texture. It comes in shapes, colors and even colors.

I think a pattern is something that is repeated. Patterns don’t always have to be seen, they can be heard as well. But usually they are seen.
