Well-Being:

  • Health
  • Happiness
  • Education
  • Satisfaction
  • Quality of life
  • Work

How does your issue affect the well-being of the people in our community? How could people’s well-being be improved?

If you were able to change the problems of your issue and make the situation better for the well-being of our community, would anybody else’s well-being be affected? What could be done about that? How could it be avoided?

Air pollution is not good for people. I think air is the most important thing for us and from air we can get many kinds of sickness. Air can carry things around and it carrys around dissiesess and all the other bad things. When these things happen to you you go to the hospital. This problem could be improved by making the air clean. I think it is impossible to have an 100% clean air but almost 100%. I think there will not be anybody else’s well-being be affected because there isn’t any jobs that need air pollution.

Taku, we were talking about saving electricity usage and how to make electricity without using coal. Have you made any comments about this yet?
I am sure that you could because you knew what you were talking about with me.

Think about it a bit deeper, Saeri. If more people come to school by BTS and golf cart, for example, it would mean that not so many people need their drivers and some drivers might lose their jobs. What about their well-being?

Hi 17saeriy, You will have a lot of people agreeing with you that air quality is important for our well-being. I’d be interested in reading what some of your ideas about how this might be reasonably achieved?
I was living in Beijing recently and observed the quality of air steadily improving in the 2 years leading up to the Olympics. One of plans the government implemented was to move a large number of factories to the east side of the city – so that the air that was pumped out of these factories from the dirty coal they used for power, did not blow over the city.(The weather largely came from a westerly direction). Although this made the air better for me and many of the millions of people in Beijing, it impacted greatly on the factory workers. And the towns to where the factories moved to. Hhmmm. Cheers, allison

My issue is one of the most obvious to WB [Well Being] because it depends on it:

People’s WB could be improved if racism stops and nobody will lead a sad and stressful life. If my issue makes a change, the victims would be so happy that they’ll forget who they are but the bullyers would be affected because there’s no one to bully anymore. WE SHOULDNT AVOID THE FACT THAT THE BULLYERS ARE BEING AFFECTED BECAUSE THEY NEED TO LEARN A LESSON OF THEIR LIVES.

Is racism always bullying? Isn’t it sometimes a bit less obvious than that?

Oil and fossil fuels are the main reason for creating climate change and disaster effects that are destroying the world completely. Renewable energy doesn’t do any harm to people’s lives since it is using clean energy from the environment to convert it to electricity. Everyone could have a much more convenient and satisfying life since renewable energy is very easy to install and you don’t really need to do anything because it gets the energy for you. Besides, it is smaller and much more compact to have instead of building-sized power plant. I would try to get people to use the useful and cheap solar lamp post since it is a form of renewable energy provides light for a very long time, and there is no need for wiring. A wind turbine could be installed on the field for watering the field perhaps.

The Well-Being of people on Facebook would be their Life-style. You might spend most of the time on the internet or just a lot of the time and you might not know whats going on in the world. Also Facebook is a site that lets you put your life in Public. But it isn’t actually the public unless you control who you want to see what you post and everything on Facebook. I think if I changed the problems of people’s well being it will affect other people because you have more real people to be with when your outside it will also affect your well being and your quality of Life.

It affect the community because their feelings get hurt and sometimes that makes them feel weird. Sometimes they get so depressed that they kill themselves.
Sometimes they lose happiness and they don’t have happiness for a long time and it is like I said before they sometimes start feeling sick. Also the bully thinks it is fun cyber bullying so while someone is very sad someone else is very happy.
Well, I don’t think cyber bullying has much to do with education but mostly people bully people in their class or school.
The victim is not satisfied because he is being bullied but the bully is satisfied. But when the victim tells a teacher or parent the feelings are the other way and the parent is not satisfied.
I don’t think Quality of life and Work doesn’t have anything to do with it.

Water is VERY VERY healthy, if it is clean. Right now there is water that is clean, and drinkable but if we don’t do anything about water running out then in the future there will be dirty water, and only a tiny bit of it will be drinkable.
No one is going to be happy in the future if we keep on wasting water and not do anything about it. No one will be happy because there is not much water in the Earth left, water is REALLY scarce and that they are going to die of dehydration.
Right now millions of family’s can’t afford for the children/ child to go to school because they don’t have enough money so their children/ child won’t be educated like us, because they are not educated they won’t know about water running out.
No one will be satisfied because they won’t be able to use as much water as they did before, and they wouldn’t be able to do all the things that they do now because there isn’t as much water.
Their quality of their life is real bad but it could be better if EVERYONE TRIES THEIR BEST TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE so that we could live a good life.
The water companies would probably go out of business because well there is no water to bottle because people don’t care about how much water is being used, people don’t care about water running out and people don’t care about their lives and the fact that they are going to die.
Water effects everyone’s well-being because without water there would be no life on Earth and without water everyone would suffer.
I will tell people to take shorter showers but it will effect the people who work for the water company because they won’t be very happy of what is happening and that everyone is taking short showers. It will also effect people who like taking long showers because they wouldn’t like taking short showers, they are used to taking long showers.

Can we drink the tap water in Thailand? Why not?

  7. April 22, 2010 at 5:45 pm | #22

For the good thing about well being with plastic bags is that plastic bags make people happy because of convenience because they are getting provided by them and actually depend on them to provide it for them so they don’t have to do anything. While that is happening the thought of plastic bags and where it goes never cross their mind. The bad thing about well-being affecting our community is that plastic bags are thrown into our nature’s beauty of Thailand and that makes us unhappy and the toxic is bad for our health because we breathe in all of it, everywhere we turn there is plastic bags so we breathe in the toxic everyday little by little. And also schools aren’t teaching about these issues with plastic bags in their own country which is not good for their knowledge and open-mindedness. Well being can be improved by using cloth bags and be satisfied by the way it is making things put lots of things in which will make the weight still very less. And that we are not destroying the environment and our health and happiness while all of that is happening. If this becomes a solution that we use cloth bags the plastic bag factories would have to be shut down and the many workers will have to work hard to find new jobs and their health will go down, happiness and satisfaction to buy anything else. But there are ways to make all of these things possible into a fair win win solution. It could be avoided by letting them learn how to produce cloth bags and it will become a daily routine for us to get our cloth bags and that supermarkets might provide so they get more money and give discount at times.

I think if hunters hunt endangered animals and people who really like animals or they want to stop hunting, then their feeling is getting bad. I think if we save endangered animals and stop hunting them, then people’s felling is getting well. I think if we save endangered animals and hunters can’t hunt them, then they feeling is getting bad or angry. So I think we make rules that everyone assent it, then all people can live happy(I think also animals can live happy).

    • Mr. Sam
      April 22, 2010 at 7:04 pm | #25

Maybe the government could pay hunters to take care of endangered animals, to guard the forests and to use their knowledge for good things instead of hunting and killing.

Health: If people eat un-healthy fish they may be poisened by heavy meatals e.g. mercury, For example did you know that large fish tuna and baracuda have higher mercury content levels than smaller fish, so its best to only eat large fish 1 or 2 a month (source:Whats in Your Food? A New Zealand TV programe which I saw last night).
Happiness: I’m sure that the whole society would be happier seeing fish growing and know that the ocean is stocked with healthy sea life. I know I would be happy.
Education: I think that if people are more educated about my issue they would be more aware and this will benefit everyones well-being.
Satification: I think that if there was a balance between controlling pollution and helping sea life continuing to grow then people would be more saticfied.
Work: If there are cleaner fish and sea life then fishermen could work and earn money.

Plastic bags are everywhere. They come from grocery and convenience stores, often holding but a few items. They’re made for a one-time-only use, can be rip, to be discarded, to blow away in the wind and end up littering our streets and highways. Many of these bags find their way into our rivers and out into the ocean, where they dot our shorelines and end up in the stomachs of birds and marine animals.

Plastic bags affect the people in our community because we have to get rid of the plastic bags and the way to get rid is to break down. Not only do they take substantially longer to break down or degrade, but as they do they release highly toxic chemicals which may affect human health. The problem is that plastic bags do not biodegrade. They may tear apart, but they don’t go away. Instead, they break down into smaller and smaller pieces, through a process called photo degradation, and collect toxins along the way. What many young people may not realize completely is that disposable plastic bags have a very short history. It was only a few decades ago that their manufacturing cost became so low that it allowed them to become the environmental problem that they are today. Soon people will realize that plastic bags are hazardous and that now they are spread out everywhere. We are polluting plastic bags in the ocean which we may run out of fresh-clean water. To improve that we can reduce the amount of plastic bags we use in our daily life, and try using cloth bags whenever we go shopping. We, humans will not be satisfied of what we have because we just want plastic bags for conveniences. This is why people need to learn and getting a habit on recycling plastic bags and uses it well if it’s necessary. Children should be train by their family about plastic bags so in order when they grow they will get the habit of using plastic bag wisely and well. The employees who manufacture plastic bags can manufacture cloth bags instead so in order they will still gain and earn money and they won’t lose their job.

I think that my issue has not had an impact on anybody’s health yet, accept climate change has already begun and some of the disaters maybe happening due to use of fossil fuels, oil and coal. Also people are wasting electricity= wasting money. And when the electricity bills come I’m pretty sure that’ll effect their happiness!! If I can get my message across to people they’ll be living a much more healthier life in the future and preserving a healthy earth for our future generations.
Renewable energy is bound to affect oil companies and coal companies because they will either have to adapt to the change or close down, people who are working for these companies will lose their jobs. The people who lose their jobs will probably have to work in the renewable energy sector or alternative solutions.

For my issue if my solution comes true everyone’s health will be better because if you eat organic food you will be more healthy and if you save the environment we will be more healthier. People will also get more jobs in the city because of this. For my issue not many people’s well-being will be affected and most people’s well-being be will improve. People will also be satisfied because they know the source of their food and how its made.

    Conclusion:
My solution will be better for both 4 compass points.

    • Mr. Simon
      April 23, 2010 at 2:25 pm | #36

What about the cost of organic food? Don’t these products tend to be more expensive? If someone from a poor background can’t afford the organic food they may be forced to buy a less ‘healthy’ option and this could affect their well being. In a physical sense, because they won’t be getting the possible benefits, but also a mental sense, because they may WANT to buy the organic food, but just cannot afford it. This could cause them to be feeling frustrated, sad and upset.

Air Pollution affects our health because it affects your lungs and it may go around your whole body. It shortens your life by ten years if you breathe in lots of bad air everyday it could go into your brain and you could be grumpy all the time learn a lot worse which means you will have less satisfaction and your quality of work will be horrible. It all connects

    • Mr. Sam
      April 23, 2010 at 10:50 am | #39

  14. ness
    April 22, 2010 at 8:36 pm | #40

My issue is making problems right now and in the future. When electricity is made, fossil fuels are burned into the air and it causes air pollution, climate change, global warming. Air pollution leads to sickness to people because of the not clean air. When the chemicals mix with the clouds it can go anywhere and makes air pollution or acid rain. Acid rain can melt many trees and destroys the environment nearby, destroy homes etc. In many websites I have researched it said climate change contributes too many natural disasters such as tsunamis, earthquakes, volcano eruptions etc. When fossil fuels are burned, it traps the heat into earth. It makes the earth hotter and hotter. Sea level can rise higher and higher which some cities are underwater. In the future people can be underwater and many floods will happen it destroys the quality of living compared to know. If fossil fuel ran out, cars can’t be run, no electricity and many other things. We would not get use to it. Everybody can save electricity and use it when they need it. Renewable energy source can be made. Plugging out vampire suking electrical appliances when not needed.

    • Mr. Sam

You will need some real data that proves the effect of this issue on our well-being.

Some people might say that they need their air-conditioning on and their applicaiance on so that they can have more well-being! What will you say about that?

Well being is a very big part of my issue because if we don’t have clean water to drink we will get sick. Getting sick is meaning that you’re not well being. If we don’t have water, some people will die and their family and relatives will feel unhappy, that’s not well being. Without water, people won’t be able to do some things that they want to then they won’t be happy, that are not well-being. If people don’t have enough money to buy water, they get sick and die, that’s not well being. Without water, they are restless and can’t work, that’s not well being. Without water for people to drink everyday or not have enough each day, they’re not satisfied, that’s not well being. Without water, people won’t want to do anything much including teaching, kids won’t be able to learn, they don’t get education, that’s not well being. Without enough water, we will get dehydrated and feel sick, that is not well- being. Water will be scarce and people will feel not so good, firstly from thirst and secondly from stress since they would probably think a lot about how much water is left, that’s not well being.
If people rethink and do something about water, then we might still have water left, enough for us to use wisely in the future. If there is still enough water for everyone to use, then people will still be happy, healthy, satisfied, have education, have jobs and work and lastly, have a good quality life. This will only happen if people rethink about the way they use water, only if people co-operate, only if people think about others not themselves, only if people don’t fight, only if people are open-minded and only if people see people as people.
If I could change the well being community, I would like everyone to have a good life change their habits of using water so that everyone will have water to use in the future, I don’t think that the situation I want to change will cause an effect on anyone since everyone needs water, no one will actually be affected in a bad way if I actually improve the situation, but the good affects would be that our water bills that we get every month will reduce which basically means that we will have more money to spend on other things (I’m not saying that we should use money to spend on stuff, but just saying that we will have more money to spend on other vital things). If we run out of water, the effect would be that the water companies, the cap companies, the sealing company, the packaging companies and the bottle companies will go out of business because there won’t be water to bottle, cap, seal or pack. I think that if the companies are out of business is ok because then if we actually run out of water, then that means we would die, we won’t actually have time to worry about our companies. If water companies, bottle companies, cap companies, sealing companies and packing companies don’t want to close down their business, then we better save water, with water, water companies, bottle companies, cap companies, sealing companies and packing companies will be able to run their business because there would be water for them to pack, seal, cap and bottle.
People’s life would b e a wonderful life, a very successful life and a qualified life if they actually or at least TRY TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE TOWARDS THE WORLD AND THEMSELVES by reducing the amount of water, they are using so that people will actually be able to live longer, actually not only human beings but also the animals, the plants, the insects, the sea life , birds will live longer. People then will be able to learn more about these animals, sea life, trees, flowers, insects and birds. People will become more knowledgeable and people will actually raise awareness of these natural things so that these things will stay with us for at least, a longer time. This might not become true but at least, it is what I hope, it is a hope that I want people to make it happen if not at least try to make it happen, this is for us to be a better human being, if it doesn’t happen, it won’t happen, if this hope cannot happen, I at least hope that people will care more about water, will know the worth of water “WE NEVER KNOW THE WORTH OF WATER TILL THE WELL HAS RUN DRY” I do not want things to happen like this quote but I want things to happen before so that bad things won’t happen.
