Teachers Taking Action

September 1, 2010 10 comments

In October all the elementary teachers and academic assistants at NIST will be working for Habitat for Humanity in order to build houses for people with no homes.

We will do all the work… but we need to raise money to pay for all the materials. Please help us raise the money by bringing in your loose change (that’s the coins that are in your pocket or lying in a drawer somewhere).

We need to raise as much money as possible so we can build some great homes for people who need them.

Bring coins and drop them in the buckets tomorrow morning!

Need Help!

May 26, 2010 11 comments

For the hydroponics I’m going to plant the small seedlings on thursday. I need your help to do this. I will appreciate if anyone comes and help. It will only take a few minutes and we won’t get wet. This crop will be Thai vegetables so it will grow quickier than salad so we can harvest on the last week of school.

Hi everyone, on Thursday I am going to harvest this lot of hydroponics vegetables. This crop is not big because of the heat so all the vegetables will be given to people instead of selling. Please come and help me afterschool, it won’t take long you guys can just bring a bag or container to take some of vegetables home and eat them in return. Also on Friday please come and help me clean the hydroponics kit afterschool.

Hydroponics @ NIST Volunteers

May 7, 2010 6 comments

For our hydroponics, I made a new name for it so now it is called H.A.N (Hydroponics @ NIST). I also want new volunteers. Anybody who wants to be a volunteer (Including the old volunteers) Just need to comment in this.

Taking care of the hydroponcis is really fun. I would like a lot of people to take part so that taking care of it is easy and fun. I hope a lot of people will join.

Hydroponics Visit

May 6, 2010 6 comments

I am arranging to go to the hydroponics farm.  I recommend everyone to visit the farm. People who want to be the hydroponics volunteer should also go. I also want people who are already the volunteers commit to help and continue on this project. If other people want to join the hydroponics group I would also appreciate it but the volunteers will have to be commit to do this job. If we have enough people, Mr Adrian can arrange for everyone to go together. The time is probably Saturday morning (Next week) but I’m not sure yet. I just want to know who might be interested to come. (Both parents and students)

This TED Talk is really relevant to Rimjhim, Samantha, Sujinna and Sasha. However, it is always a good idea to watch TED Talks whenever you can so that you become more knowledgeable about the world we live in.

“The exhibition is finished”… oh no it’s not.

Don't stop believing by Loozrboy.

Our exhibition was all about the future and being able to live in a way that saves our planet and our species from destruction. But, many PYP exhibitions finish and the teachers, students and school community instantly forget about the issues. We’re not going to let that happen. We’re going to carry on our work, we’re going to prove to ourselves that we really do care about these issues and that we are passionate enough to continue to make things happen.

You selected your own homework today, make a comment to tell us what you did towards continuing your exhibition work.

Homework Part Two: Well-Being

Well-Being:

  • Health
  • Happiness
  • Education
  • Satisfaction
  • Quality of life
  • Work

How does your issue affect the well-being of the people in our community? How could people’s well-being be improved?

If you were able to change the problems of your issue and make the situation better for the well-being of our community, would anybody else’s well-being be affected? What could be done about that? How could it be avoided?
