“Holes” by Louis Sachar is the best book I have read with students this year, and “Boy Overboard” by Morris Gleitzman is also a very enjoyable and powerful book for students in Y5, 6 or 7 to read. Both of these books are wel-written, have funny parts in them, make you think about serious global issues and provoke fantastic conversations.
Percy Jackson and the lightning thief. This book is all bout Greek myth in the modern world and how it has adapted to ourselves. So there are Greek gods in this book and also it is very funny. This book also helps you learn about Greek Myths.
Who is the author?
Rick Riordan
1. Sideways Stories from Wayside School-Louis Sachar
2. Absolutely Normal Chaos-Sharon Creech
3. Magic Tree House-Midnight on the Moon-Mary Pope Osborne
4. Holes Louis Sachar
5. Mouse and the Motorcycle-Beverly Cleary.
Absolute Stunners
Can you explain a little bit about why you recommend each book?
1. Too funny. Makes you relax during times of stress
2. Best book I’ve ever read. Very hilarious and in a diary form as well!
3. Just good
4. You know why
5. Chilling.
How can you relax if it is too funny?
Nelly the monster sitter.
I recommened people to read this book because I feel its a very fun, fantasy sort of book, I have read 2 of the books and now I’m on my third. In each book there are 3 stories of a girl called Nelly that monster sits. I think boys might not enjoy this book as much although I think its a book that you should try to read.
Harry Potter.
I think that people should read Harry Potter because Its a good book and it challenges youself. I am on book 5 now although I feel that Harry Potter is a “Must read book”. Harry potter is not only fun but it also helps you improve you vocabulary. I think that maybe in the middle of the series you should take a break and that is what I am doing now.
Who are the authors?
Harry Potter=J.K Rowling
Nelly the monster sitter=Kes Gray
The whole series of FUDGE that includes, 1: Tales of Fourth Grade Nothing. 2: Superfudge. 3: Fudge-a-mania. 4: Double fudge
The Author is Judy Blume
I would recommend these book because it has lots of imaganation which makes it very humorous. There are also some wierd things like Fudge thinks he can fly like a bird so he jumps off the monkey bars, lands face first onto the concrete floor and chips his 2 front teeth off.
I agree the series of Fudge is really funny and good.
I recommend you with the spiderwick chronicles series from book 1 -5. The author is tony ditterlizzi and holy black. It is a good set of fantasy books. It is filled with exciting, scary and funny parts.
Holes by Louis Sachar the best book I have ever read to kids your age. There are a couple of other Titles by louis Sachar that you may like to try – Super fast- Out of Control and The boy who lost his face -they are both in the NIST library.
The kids in my Grade 5 class in Dhaka loved mysteries by Robert Swindells – We have Stone cold and Timesnatch in the library and there is a series called the outfit that you can buy online. These are a series of mysteries a group of kids that live in a small village solve together –
Happy reading 6SS
I must agree with Ms. Kate. “Holes” is one of the best books I’ve ever read with kids. Read-aloud books and books that you read with a whole class have to be SO GOOD because otherwise it can become a bit boring for everyone. Authors like Morris Gleitzman use a lot of “cliffhangers” and techniques like that can turn a dull book into an exciting book. So simple.
I started to read Percy Jackson and the lightning thief and good so maybe you guys can read and my dad has more of those stories so you can talk to me if you want a Percy Jackson books.
Who is the author, Taku?
The author is Rick Riordan
“Sixth grade secrets” by Louis Sachar is really interesting and hillarious. Have a chance to read. This book can be read by girls and boys, It’s a bit of a harder level of reading but it is very fun if you read it in a group so you can enjoy with others. Unfortunately there isn’t this book in the library. It is about mainly about secret groups and having war which is very funny and cool names that no one has ever thought of.
Percy Jackson is a really fun book. I read all five books in four days because I couldn’t stop reading. It is certainly the best book I read this year. It also has a creative plot about how the greeks myths move to the ”Western Civilization”. It also wants you to read the next chapter/book after you finish a chapter/book. It has a lot of adventure in it and lots of suprises but it is also based Greek myths. Some people also put this in the recommended list too because many people are reading it. The author is Rick Riordan.
Yeah though I think most people started to because the movie probabaly made the book famous. Even though the movies messed the book up.
You guys should read the “Harry Potter” series. It may be old but it is a lot of fun!! Also when the series gets closer to the last book it gets better and better. If you want you can borrow a book from me. I have the whole series!!
This is a great list of books that I got through Twitter from someone called Gail O’Connell. She teaches English here in Bangkok:
