Where are you?

October 31, 2011 37 comments

I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=phuket&hl=en&ll=7.768612,98.307853&spn=0.02513,0.038581&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=41.003738,79.013672&vpsrc=6&hnear=Phuket,+Thailand&t=m&z=15

Use Google Maps to find your location, then get the URL by clicking on the hyperlink icon in the top right of the screen and paste it into a comment on this posting. Don’t put any markers on the map as that would be too much information. Also,  describe the place a bit and say what you’ve been up to!

Some challenges for you…

The song Sweet Lullaby is about the beauty and the living of African people. You should watch the music video.

My HW task

October 20, 2011 11 comments

My HW task was to share my summer holiday pictures. Over the holiday, We went to Italy. we flew to Milan, then drove to Switzerland and back, then we went to Rome, Florence and Venice, Sorrento(a city along the Amalfi coast) some of the main cities of Italy and also Verona. It was really fun and we took lots of photos. We visited many famous place, including the Leaning tower of Pisa, The Vatican and the Colisseum. Also, the food was yummy, but sometimes the Italian food in Bangkok was better. When we had to leave, I wanted to stay longer because it was so fun there!

“A man who has not been in Italy, is always conscious of an inferiority.”
Dr.Samuel Johnson

A Cultural Flickr Project

October 20, 2011 8 comments

Tomorrow is UN Day and we were going to come to school in national costumes. Now the school is closed, how can we celebrate our cultures and make connections and comparisons?

I know… a Flickr photography project!

Spend some time over the next couple of days taking photos around your house. Find things that represent your culture, your nationality and your beliefs or values. Upload them to Flickr and put them in the “Cultural Connections” set. I will put this in the “Who we are” collection.

You could take photos of:

  • antiques
  • furniture
  • decorations
  • food
  • pictures
  • art
  • rugs and carpets
  • clothes
  • anything else you can think of

Flooding

October 20, 2011 42 comments

As you all know parts of Bangkok are flooded which means that school has been closed for safety reasons.  To connect your learning with what is going on right outside your window you are expected to observe what is going on around you and in the country at the moment, respond to the questions below and gather evidence of your findings.

You may choose to…

  • write notes
  • conduct interviews
  • collect data
  • watch the news or read news online
  • take photographs
  • make videos
  • take action
  • discuss with your family
  • or anything else you can think of that will help you understand what is happening in Thailand at the moment

Questions:

Why is Thailand flooding?

What can you find out about how the natural environment has changed in some places?

What impact will the flooding have on the environment when the water recedes? How will it impact animals? How will it impact plants?

If the flooding continues for five days or longer how will the environment be affected?
