Homework: Plan a Science Experiment

May 10, 2011 37 comments

As I said on Monday, I’d like us to start doing some simple science experiments as well as making the connection between science and your exhibition issues. This will help you understand how to think like a scientist and how to do experiments that are accurate and really help you find things out properly.

We can do these experiments in school, but you can also try them out at home too. Take a look at these websites for some ideas, then make a comment to tell us what experiments you’re interested in and what equipment you will need.

When you’re trying the experiments at home, why not get someone to take photos or video of you as evidence?

Reaching a different audience…

May 9, 2011 7 comments

Jon is totally focused on this piece of work. That is because:

  • It is relevant to his exhibition work
  • He is using Lego, a real passion of his
  • He is a very visual person
  • He loves animations, comic strips and cartoons
  • He understands the needs of his audience

Great stuff, Jon!

How could you use animation to communicate with your audience?

The “Your Name Award” for Best Book of 2011

Create a blog posting on your Blogfolio to tell us the best book you have read this year and why. You have several choices of how to do this:

  • Type it straight onto the Blogfolio. Include an image of the book.
  • Create the award in Word, upload to Scribd and embed it on your blog
  • Can you think of another way?

Homework: So, teachers, how was it?

How do you feel about your lessons in Year 1 today?

What was really successful?

What was really challenging?

What could you do in the next lesson with those kids?

Homework: Science Connections

May 4, 2011 37 comments

Today we have been looking at how your issues connect with science. It would be amazing if we could continue with your PYP Exhibition work by becoming scientists in different ways.

Think carefully about how your issue might be connected to different science “strands”.

Living Things: The study of the characteristics, systems and behaviours of humans and other animals, and of plants; the interactions and relationships between and among them, and with their environment.

Earth & Space: The study of planet Earth and its position in the universe, particularly its relationship with the sun; the systems, distinctive features and natural phenomena that shape and identify the planet; the infinite and finite resources of the planet.

Materials & Matter: The study of the properties, behaviours and uses of materials, both natural and man-made, the origins of human-made materials and how they are manipulated to suit a purpose.

Forces & Energy: The study of energy, its origins, storage and transfer, and the work it can do; the study of forces; the application of scientific understanding through inventions and machines.

Explain your connections and some ideas for experiments you might be able to do.

Small Car Crash

May 3, 2011 5 comments

Yesterday, Monday the 2nd of May, Jamie, Paul and I witnessed a small car crash. I know from many conversations from my friends that car crashes happen all the time inBangkokso this isn’t something that you can witness once in a lifetime. The reason I’m writing about this is because this was the first time I, myself, witnessed a car crash up close.

Jamie, Paul and I were in Jamie’s car during this. We were driving in the intersection near school. Suddenly, we heard a loud screech and immediately, we looked in front of us and we saw a pink Taxi and a silver Honda crash. At the looks of it, the Taxi hit the Honda. The taxi was damaged at the front right corner of the car. The Honda was damaged on the door on the right (back seat). As soon as the cars stayed in place (stopped moving) the people involved in the crash came out. The man in the Honda started shouting at the taxi driver for a while, and then they all got out and on their phones. We asked for Jamie’s dad to drive slower so I could get my camera. While I was taking pictures, we noticed that there was a farang (foreigner) on the back seat of the taxi. After the cars stopped safely he came out of the taxi and started to smoke while watching the scene. We also noticed that some of the pink from the taxi was on the Honda.

In the end, I got a few good shots of the scene (the rest were blurry). Luckily, nobody involved in the crash was hurt. Below isone of my photos of the Handa’s dent.

****** 5 Star Diner for the Nelissen family***** FREE

May 3, 2011 1 comment

I thought that for my homework, I would do something else than exhibition work so I decided to be independent and cook my family a 5 star diner. I cooked Steak, Peas and Potatoes. For the desert I served fried bananas with honey to dip in. After that I had to clean the dishes that’s the worst part in cooking. Because I think I enjoyed this I put my pictures on the blog. I also loaded the pictures of my holiday on Australian on out flickr account. They’re great photos, hope you like them.

The science of pill home work to teacher

May 3, 2011 3 comments

I have eatan a lot of pills since when my nose got blocked. I have been curious about these pills. I have heard from my dad when he pour water and put the pill in to it he felt very salty( I forgot but I think). I think that is because the madichine inside of the pill has some kinds of meterials that will pop the stuff and it will come out and spreed in your body ( when you drank and if its on the stomach). The internet does not tell me all the information for me but I remember the book about medichine and I remember that some hospitals uses fake medichines for not that really bad situations from the people. Also these fake medichines effects people to be calmer and be healthy. Later I founded that some kinds of pills can make some changes on your health and taht is very bad also the people will get used to the bad pills easily. I think that the pill could be very dangerouse in the future.

Osama Bin Laden killed in a firefight

May 2, 2011 4 comments

Hello guys and Mr. Sam!

Osama Bin Laden has been killed early in the morning by the CIA Obama sent to Abbottabad in Pakistan.

I didn’t know about it until my tutor told me about it. I am really glad!

I wasn’t very happy and angry when Al Qaeda(Bin laden’s team) committed the September 11 attacks.

For more information about it, copy this link and paste it into the URL box :http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/September_11_attacks

Are you??
