Homework: Choosing your focus

We’ll be going for another walk tomorrow. This time, we are going to have a focus, something that we will be looking for. To make it really interesting, different people will focus on different things.

So, choose your focus. Make a comment to tell us which one you would like to focus on, and why.

  • How people earn money
  • What happens to rubbish
  • How people move around
  • What people buy and sell
  • Where people live
  • What and where people eat
  • How things are organized
  • People’s emotions

The thing I like to focus on is ‘What happens to rubbish’ Because I want to know how many rubbish in Bangkok so we can find the way of solution and also we can think about how can we make less rubbish like plastic bags.

      January 31, 2011 at 5:34 pm

Why are you concerned about rubbish?

      • Yeachan
        January 31, 2011 at 5:51 pm

I am concerened about rubbish because if we don’t care about the rubbish, Bangkok will be very polluted and Klong will very very very dirty. Also it damage the Klong water and our land.

          January 31, 2011 at 5:54 pm

Sorry I forgot can. “Also it can damage the Klong water and our land.”

            January 31, 2011 at 6:41 pm

Why does it matter if the khlong water is dirty?

          • Yeachan
            February 1, 2011 at 7:21 am

I think if the Klong is dirty, it doesn’t look good, and it makes smell. Also I think it might be pollute the water because people throw away rubbish in the Klong.

    January 31, 2011 at 5:33 pm

The thing I am focus on is “what happens to rubbish” Beacause I want to know why prople are leaving rubbish in the klong and I want to know why and how many are there. Or how could we stop this rubbish left over mess going on. ( I don’t know if I did my homework right but I think this is it :) )

    • Mr. Sam
      January 31, 2011 at 5:35 pm

Do people only leave rubbish in the khlong?

      • 18saeyeono
        January 31, 2011 at 5:40 pm

I am going to focus on beggers.
I am interested beacuse they are always interesting and I always wonder what happened in this kids life. It is really interesting to take photos of the dirrerent beggers in thailand!

    • Mr. Sam
      January 31, 2011 at 6:42 pm

Was beggars one of the choices? Have you actually read the posting?

    January 31, 2011 at 5:47 pm

this is a correction on my last comment
I think I would like to focus on “What people buy and sell” because I like taking photos of food, and how people sell food.I also find the way they set there stall up intresting.I like watchng people buy food to see how it’s packed, and wonder where the packaging ends up.

    • Mr. Sam
      January 31, 2011 at 6:43 pm

A much more detailed explanation, Shiku, thanks!

    January 31, 2011 at 5:51 pm

I will Focus on “where people live” because it is really interesting especially for beggars because in the night they just sleep on the street or street venders like fruit sellers with the little pushy thing it dosent look like they have a home i dont think they can afford one.

  7. gabi
    January 31, 2011 at 5:53 pm

I once went to see what kind of rooms or apartment spa staff live in and it is basically a little room with a bathroom and a bed and a little space to do something (no air condition)!! either fan or windows open.

  8. gabi
    January 31, 2011 at 5:57 pm

Sorry I change my mind I will focus on What people buy and sell because i always wonder if people can sell their things or how many things people buy a day.

I also like to take pictures of food that look really thai.

Great. It would be interesting if you spoke to some of the vendors tomorrow too.

Im going to focus on Where people live, because I see many people on the street selling street food, beggers, and people seelsing stuff in public markets, and that, is alot. I know that the people who sells street food, thier house cant be far because they have to carry thier stuff and store them, to make it easier, or if they leave it, people might just take it, or they might stash it somewhere where theres alot of carts, like the one we crossed. I also want to do this because I want to find out how many people have sustainable houses and that are well being, and that effects on economy and health and wealth.

    • Mr. Sam
      January 31, 2011 at 6:47 pm

Don’t focus only on one kind of person, try to get photos of where all sorts of different types of people live. Also, if you can’t see their home, how can you find out where they live?

  10. Sam
    January 31, 2011 at 5:59 pm

I think I will focus on ‘How people earn money.’ This is because:
-I think this is related to street vendors and beggars which are very interesting to take a photo of
-Sometimes people have a interesting fact or a story
-There are many beggars and street vendors in Thailand (Usually poor people earn money that way)
-I think it will be interesting to figure out the different ways of people earning money and I would be very interested in speaking to a Thai person selling something or just working.

    Sam

      January 31, 2011 at 6:48 pm

Be careful about assuming that street vendors are poor, it might now always be true. Many people say that Khun Joe is not poor at all.

    • Sam
      January 31, 2011 at 7:16 pm

      Ohhh.
I think it will be interesting to find out if the people on the street are poor when I talk to them. I won’t ask them if they’re poor but ask for information like ‘Do you live in a house?’ and I will probab;y figure out.

    January 31, 2011 at 6:22 pm

I think I’ll like to focus one “Where people live” because there’s lots of people begging on the street and I wonder that is him/her live there all the time? And where are all his/her family? I think it’s really interesting for me because why don’t the beggers go find some jobs to do or some one force them to beg. I also think that some people on the street they have good clothes on and they look healthy and I wonder why they’re begging for money.

    • Mr. Sam
      January 31, 2011 at 6:49 pm

Do you think the beggars we see in this area actually live on the street? Where might they live?

  12. 18Aayushk
    January 31, 2011 at 6:24 pm

I am going to focus on “how people earn money” because there are a lot of different ways people earn money in Thailand and I really want to learn more about the way people earn money and how much they earn.
I wonder whether bus drivers and klong boat drivers have a good salary because it is very cheep to go on these public transports and the bus/boat driver will need to share the money with the money collector and pay for the expensive petrol so I’m not sure if he earns a decent salary.
Secondly, I think that Thai people are creative because they find many ways to earn money. These ways are quite different to other countries.

    • Mr. Sam
      January 31, 2011 at 6:51 pm

      I love this quote:

“I think that Thai people are creative because they find many ways to earn money. These ways are quite different to other countries.”

It would be great to really focus on their creativity.

I agree with Mr Sam I also liked “I think that Thai people are creative because they find many ways to earn money. These ways are quite different to other countries.”.

  13. Manisha
    January 31, 2011 at 6:34 pm

I think i will focus on”How people earn money” because i when ever i see a poor person i start to think how he earns money and i want to know more about how thai poor people earn money.

    • Mr. Sam
      January 31, 2011 at 6:51 pm

What about richer people…. isn’t it interesting to find out how they earn money too?

  14. Manisha
    January 31, 2011 at 6:37 pm

I want to see diffrence between how India and Thailand’s poor people earn money.

    • Mr. Sam
      January 31, 2011 at 6:53 pm

      Ooh… now that is interesting.

  15. Terrie
    January 31, 2011 at 6:41 pm

I think I like to focus this one:”What people buy and sell”. Because in Thailand, lo of people like to eat and buy street, and we don’t really know more about street food, like we don’t know is clean? is that taste good? And I think if the food is not clean, people might not buy street food, and the food is the energy from. So I thinkI like to focus on “What people nuy and sell”.

    • Mr. Sam
      January 31, 2011 at 6:54 pm

So, will you focus on food?

  16. sebastian
    January 31, 2011 at 6:46 pm

I think I will focus on how people earn money. This is because I wonder how street vendors and beggars have enough money to pay for their families and at the same time buy equipment to be able to prepare their shop or selling it on the road.

    My questions
Do street vendors and beggars earn enough money to live in a comfortable and safe home or do they live on the street?
How much do street vendors earn a day?

    • Mr. Sam
      January 31, 2011 at 6:55 pm

I wonder if it is OK to ask people these questions? I think that Thai people don’t mind being asked questions like that – let’s check tomorrow, before we set off.

I’d really like to focus on where people live. I want to focus on this because there are millions of beggars in thailand. I see them everyday. I also am very curious about beggars life. Also shelter is a very important thing because if you don’t have a appropriate shelter it leads you to sickness etc. My main question about this is why are beggars begging for money I am VERY curious about this! I wonder why they don’t save their money then if they have childrens they can put the childrens in school! Also they should work like to earn money for their living! i wonder why that is happening. Is it because they are lazy or they are sick???? :\
Its also really public and if the population of beggars grow it can affect the country :)

    January 31, 2011 at 7:11 pm

Tommorow I would like to focus on where the rubbish goes. I want to focus on this because there is a big problem with the plastic bags here in Thailand and it would really be interesing to see where it all goes and why also how it goes to that special place.

    • Jin
      January 31, 2011 at 8:08 pm

Yeah I hope they demolish all the plastic bags!!! :P ;)

    January 31, 2011 at 7:12 pm

I think I want to focus on ‘what happens to rubbish?’ because I relize that we create a lot of rubbish daily. I don’t know where it go and I want to find out.

  20. January 31, 2011 at 7:25 pm

I agree with you Jon because the topic that you chose is the same like mine because people always put plastics in rubbish and I wonder where is going.

So my topic is ” What happens to rubbish?”.

  21. Am
    January 31, 2011 at 7:50 pm

I want to focus on the topic ‘what happens to rubbish’ because I am very concerned and I want to inquire into it more deeply. An amount of my pictures are of rubbish and I really what to know what happens to them, why and how are they appearing everywhere and who/what is the causation.

    • Am
      January 31, 2011 at 7:53 pm

Also I have thought about it and it relates to me because I might be the causation and I don’t know where the rubbish really goes after I throw it away or where the rubbish truck escorts it. It would be interesting to find out and look at them by the compass lenses.

  22. Jin
    January 31, 2011 at 7:55 pm

I am concentrating on How much money do people get. Well I think that is a huge problem because like the jean fixer, if he does the job bad, the customer will complain and give less money. I am really concerned about that. Besides, there are loads of beggars in Thailand, aren’t there? Anyway even the hawkers are lucky to get small amount of money. :(

  23. Michael
    January 31, 2011 at 8:04 pm

I think I will focus on where rubbish goes because I am interested when people throw things away wheredo they go? I also want to focus on peoples emotions because I am interested in how people feel in different levels of society such as poor homeless people to middle class people and then to rich people.

  24. 18Anirudhv
    January 31, 2011 at 8:06 pm

I would like to focus on people’s emotions because everybody has different feelings.
